I have read that S&W changed their firing pins to be shorter & lighter to better pass the CA drop tests? I am surprised how much less F.P. protrusion there is on my newer models compared to my older ones? On my new 625JM using moon clips I have had a miss-fire, or two, using new Federal Gold Medal Match ammo. Strain screw is tight. Pin measures .484 in length. Would replacing my pin with the .500 Apex eliminate this occurance? Does the newer shorter-lighter pins increase the chance of a miss-fire? Is it a good idea to replace the pins on new models with the longer Apex pin?
