I decided to remove the firing pin from my 45 Shield to clean it. I have reviewed instructions to remove it and I can't get the back plate off of the slide. I have depressed the white plastic where I can see it move away from the back plate but the plate will not budge. Is the 45 Shield any different than the 9 or 40 when it comes to this procedure? It just feels like something else is holding the back plane onto the slide. Any thoughts?

Don't know which video(s) you watched. I found the below one to be good. Sometimes it takes some wraps with a hammer.

Some smart aleck is probably going to come along and tell you that you don't have a firing pin in your Shield...you do have a striker. (It's like the clip vs magazine semantic antics.) ;)

Anyhow, I have a Shield 45, and I'm getting ready to remove the back plate, take out the striker, and clean the channel...and then replace the back plate with an aftermarket plate. I've been watching the videos and reading the comments...I've done this on other polymer pistols, just not the Shield 45 yet...and most say that this Shield 45 plate is just very tight and hard to break loose. I guess I'll find out!

I hope you get yours off...

Very tight

I was able to remove the striker as shown in the videos that I have watched. The rear plate was very tight but with the polymer end of my small hammer I was able to tap it and it worked its way out. Thanks for the replies.
