I've been looking for a 22 revolver for a few months now without much luck. I missed out on a few gun because of bad timing on my part. Today while driving by a LGS I decided to stop because I hadn't been in for quite a while. When I got around to the revolvers I spotted a pre 18 five screw and knew it was coming home with me. It had some blueing loss on the cylinder and mussel and on the high spots but it locked up tight, trigger felt great and bore was bright and crisp. After a little negotiations and paper work it was mine. I spent some time with it cleaning and fondling it this afternoon with no disappointments. I have a few other Smith and Wessons but this is the oldest. From what I could find with a serial # of K1247XX I'm thinking that it dates to early 50's and it should have diamond grip which it doesn't. I hoping someone can help zero in on a date. Thanks

I finally got to the range and put 150 rounds through my new old gun. I used 3 different brand of ammo without any issues. I really like the way it shoots and it seems to be very accurate if I manage to my part which isn't always the case. Still working on the pictures.

i still haven't figured out the right way to download pictures but you can see a picture. I'm not a computer guys you can tell.

Congratulations on the pre 18. Keep working on those pictures. Even I can post them. Of course I had to ask a 12 year old how it was done.

That's a mighty nice Smith you have. And I think you made the right move with the Herrets. If you don't have the correct matching diamond 'stocks', as Smith calls them, the Herrets are a practical substitution IMHO. But that's just my personal opinion.

Nice .22! See the boxes on the right side in your Photobucket album with names like HTML, IMG? Copy the entire link in the IMG text box (left click on the text 3 times to highlight, right click on the highlighted text and copy). Then, you can past that link into your post and the picture will show up in your post.
