I took a business associate out for his first turkey hunt Thursday afternoon (KS hunt). We sat up on several gobblers...lots of fighting, spitting and drumming but no joy. We left about sunset after watching the birds fly up to roost. Fun though!
This morning we went to a great wooded creek bottom and at first light a single owl call had them gobbling hard...5-6 adult gobblers were roosted well with-in a very short walk.
We sat up by 6:15am. The birds (hens, Jakes & adult gobblers) were all very active...LOTS of turkey sounds....fighting, purrs, spitting, drumming, cackles, AND so much gobbling it was incredible. Several other gobblers were to the right and left of us along the creek.
At 7am, this bird strutted across an old oxbow in the creek...gobbling his head off...at 30 steps he bit the dust.
A great morning in the turkey woods. 3/4" spurs, 10.5" beard....weighed in over 20 lbs.
