Hey all, just joined the family. While field stripping my new Shield last night I noticed what appears to be wear on the recoil spring assembly. Is this normal?

Every time you shoot it there will be some wear on the parts.

Normal, no worries.

The Finnish S and W uses on their slides is phenomenal. I have 3700 rounds through my full size already and there is hardly any ware on the slide. Only on the barrel and the other moving parts that rub together. This is from shooting competitions this year and drawing in and out of a kydex holster.

You don't metion whether the pistol is new or used.....I don't recognize the blue colored surface on the exterior, but the wear looks normal. Very hostile environment in and around the RGA.

It is brand new. Never been fired.

That looks a little odd to me, Blamblam. Almost like it has been swapped out. I have not seen a new gun that looked like that, having never been fired.

Yes,

I think I would point that out to the seller and ask what gives.

Good first choice. Now you need a REVOLVER. Maybe a nice model 10, 19 or maybe even a 686.:D

All of my revolvers I've bought used and I'm very happy with all of them.

blame blame you mentioned this is your first firearm. Do you have someone who is experienced with handguns to go shooting with. Read your owners manual from front cover to last page-TWICE. Obey all the safety rules.
the main thing is to be safe.....
Enjoy your shield, I love mine so much I take it with me all summer long.

Yep. My step father used to be a police officer so I have some prior experience. I’m taking things extremely slow. Appreciate you looking out!

Welcome to the Forum! You made a excellent choice with your first CCW pistol, the S&W M&P Shields are outstanding handguns! Accurate and dependable. I had a Performance Center M&P Shield 9mm for a couple of years and really liked it- it was one of my EDC pistols. I ended up trading that pistol in for a new PC M&P Shield Plus 9mm. Wow, what a great gun! It is an EDC pistol that I carry in a leather pocket holster or Sticky Holster, or occasionally in a CrossBreed AIWB holster.

Don't worry about that blue marking dye...it will quickly wear off, or you can remove the dye when you clean your pistol. I just checked, and the recoil guide rod assembly should be a shiny metal finish without dye. I'm a little surprised that your pistol made it through QC inspection with the dye. Anyway, it's a non issue...enjoy!
