Great hardship down here. Let's see-fish...fried or grilled??? Or maybe shrimp, or crawfish. OK crawfish-let'see etouffee, bisque, stew, fried, grilled, au gratin....Wait what about crab-yea that's it crab. No wait lets do shrimp creole. No- how about redfish courtbouillion. Maybe I'll just get a couple of links of Legnon's crawfish boudin. Wait how about boiled crawfish-yea that's it but can't put sausage in da watta!
None of that canned salmon croquets ot tuna noodle casserole for this boy :D

When you said "fish fry" I thought you were in Buffalo, NY. That's a staple all year long, not just Lent.

It means Haddock, BTW.

We often go for a fish fry, not just Friday. Got the urge today, and I said lets go early because of lent.

Wasn't early enough. Not a single space in the lot, so we had to go to an alternate restaurant.

Not too good. From now on we'll go to the right place, but on Wednesday instead.

Fresh bluegills here - my wife and I ate 4 pans of em! [emoji41] One of my greatest joys is all things bluegill.

Lightly dusted in custom breadcrumbs and fried in olive oil. Little salt and pop in your mouth!

Crab cakes, calamari, and stuffed clams. Ash Wednesday was shrimp, scallops, and salmon.

I had slow roasted "bovine fish", marinated in teriyaki sauce with stir-fried vegetables. (I have a developed a mild fish/shellfish allergy over the years so beef stir-fry for me today).

Although, I do miss the fish frys from Buffalo, and Chivetta's chicken. There's some good eating...

I made Borscht tonight. One of my best creations, a combo of the Moscow and Ukraine recipes.

I'm thinkin' you Cajuns should give up fish for red meat during lent. O worse yet...CHICKEN!

We take part in many of the church fund raiser dinners. Last w-end when GF and I were coming home from setting up at NGD on Friday evening we had tickets for our local German heritage church's homemade sausage/fried fish supper and we used them.

This past Friday the local Catholic church had their weekly Lenten fish fry and we hit that one. Year round the local Shrine club does a Friday night dinner and we frequent that regularly. Good thing Friday only comes once a week or I'd weigh 300 lbs.

In the Midwest it's catfish with 3 sides and a piece of pie for $10. Church/school has a drive through with the school kids being the runners. It is good. We each had one tonight.

In Central Indiana, the local VFD's have one each summer. So you can easily go to a half dozen within a few miles each year. The local Catholic churches also seem to have one and a lot of the local service clubs (Lions, JC's, Kiwanis, etal) have them too. So it's not unusual to go to a dozen or so a year.

FYI: I'm a fish eating freak, I can't get enuf of the the fish fries!
