I went to the Oaks Gun Show in SE PA today. This was a 1500 table show. I only found two S&W revolvers that were worth buying and one of them I already have,
The first - the one I have - was a Model 24-3 with a 4" barrel. While everybody clamors for the 3" Lew Horton 24-3's, they made 5K of them, there were only 2,625 made of the 4" variant. He had a price tag on it of $999 and I watched somebody walk away because they didn't want to pay sales tax. What a maroon.
Second gun I probably would have bought, but wasn't prepared to deal right then and there and the seller was kind of a jerk. I ask if he had a business card. No. (Heck, even I have business cards). Started to ask if he'd write down his phone number on the back of one of my cards. No. Only wanted to sell it right there, right now. I don't think he was an FFL and his head probably would have exploded if I'd have asked if he'd ship it to NJ (my FFL). I don't chase people to give them my money and he must not have wanted to sell the gun very badly.
OK, what was it? A Model 25-2, 6.5" barrel in .45 Colt. It had a late N prefix serial number and a box numbered to the gun - but it looked like it was written in roller-ball or felt tip marker - not ball point. Small red flag. He had a price of $1250 on the gun, which I would have gladly paid, had he not been such a jerk.
Redeeming feature of the day was that the Cokes I won at auction last week came in the mail while I was gone - and they are nicer than the pictures.
Adios,

I'll gladly reveal the name of the shop with the 24-3 if anyone is interested. They are nice people and had two Great Pyrenees in the booth with them.
