First jump into the 10mm

For years I loved the .41 magnum. It was just right.

I’ve gotten out of the .41 and always wanted to try the 10.

Finally came across this Springfield TRP in 10mm new. Went for it, and pleased to see its well made. Very tight barrel lockup. Flawless finish, great balance. Fully supported barrel should allow for original Norma loads (200 gr. @ 1,200).

Looking forward to this magnum powered 1911 at the range.

Carry recommendations? I like the Silvertips, I’ve got some Hornady Critical duty (175@1150). I prefer heavier bullets.

I have been a Big believer in the 10MM Auto cartridge since 1990

It is a 200 Grain JHP moving out at 1130 FPS

Not quite your old NORMA load, but much closer than many Modern Day 10MM Auto offerings

I have not had the opportunity to go out and chronograph this load in any of my 10MM firearms yet, but I am looking forward to it

If the advertised MV translates to the real world, this is going to be one great defensive round

The 10MM Auto recoil pulse is faster, but not much harder than the 45ACP

10mm is the best mm.

Underwood 180gr XTP is my go to in my compact 10mms. My longer barreled 10mms get 200gr XTPs from Underwood. True full power 10mm.

Nice choice in a 1911.

That Hornady needs another 100-150fps to be worthy of being called a 10mm. You want the Underwood 200gn XTP @ 1250fps and forget that Norma foolishness

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll order Underwood stuff before taking it to the range. I like Underwood’s ammo in .357 magnum. Loud and very hard kicking stuff.

Of the 50 round mass produced 10mm boxed stuff, which has the most energy? Best I have found is the MagTech or Sig Sauer 180 FMJ both just over 600 lb/ft. Just want to practice with the recoil for faster follow up shots.

Wow! Nice score. And great, great caliber. I live my only 10mm. I scored 250 of the Federal HST bullets, yes, bullets not loaded rounds, recently and I've been saving my brass. 10mm is the first pistol cartridge I want to reload.
Again, a real beauty of a pistol.

My Delta Elite 10mm with full power loads is quite snappy, reminds me of a shooting a 4 inch barreled 357 Magnum revolver. With FBI weak loads it is a slightly quicker recoil impulse than 45 ACP.

Congrat’s on your new pistol in 10mm. I have been shooting the 10mm since it’s introduction. Owned a Bren ten, currently own several 1911’s and my edc is a Glock 20.
Carried Silver tips and Hydra shoks for years, recently transitioned to the 200 gr gold dot, the 200 gr HST would be a great choice also.
Photo’s are of Silver tip and Hydra shok shot into ballistic gelatin.
The 10mm is my “ go to “ pistol round and I do not see that changing.

1. Those legendary Norma loads have been chronographed. They fall short of the hype.

2. 10mm is not a .41 magnum. Top 10mm loads are about equal to top .357 magnum loads.

3. Sig ammo is reasonably priced and is loaded to 10mm velocity. Most factory 10mm is FBI lite and is only a bit hotter than .40.

4. True 10mm loads make for much snappier recoil than .45 ACP particularly in a 1911.

5. The 10mm is a handloader's cartridge. AA#9 is the top powder for heavy loads, although several others work just fine.

6. I have a Springfield XDM 10mm. 16 rounds. If I carried it for personal protection, I'd use the hydra shock ammo, which is barely over .40 spec. The full house stuff increases recoil for no discernable gain.

I shoot a Springfield Armory Range Officer Elite and find the recoil very manageable. To me it is more the energy coming through my hands and arms not necessarily upward and I find it very easy to reacquire target.

Took the TRP 10mm to the range. Great gun. Shot 50 rounds of American Eagle 180 FMJ. All rounds fired fed and ejected perfectly. Tried 200 gr. FMJ PMC. It failed to feed most rounds. Started to get worried. So I Shot some Speer Gold Dot 200 gr., no issues. Moved to the Hornady Critical Duty 175 gr. And it worked well. It’ s a mild load. The star of the show was the Hornady custom 180 gr. XTP @ 1,275. That’s the real deal! Hard hitting and fed perfectly.

The gun works great, as long as PMC 200 gr. Is not used.

I’d recommend this gun.

Been shooting the 10mm since 1990. Still have some of the old Norma stuff I keep for collector reasons. Underwood’s stuff is without a doubt the best loads out there. I carried their 200 gr XTP as a duty load for several years. I can attest as to what their ammo will do to deer and wild hogs. It is devastating.

That sounds like a GREAT first outing

I have been fond of the Hornady Custom line for many years now. Unfortunately they have been thining the lineup

In 10MM Auto there used to be a 200 grain XTP loading but it is gone

I also wish they had not discontinued the 357 Magnum, 140 grain XTP offering, that was my favorite snubby load.

Even the 90 grain XTP 380 load is absent today. This round clocked an actual 1000 FPS from my Walther PPK
