First Purchase Advice

Yay!!!!

Goodmorning all, thank you for your advice!

Wise, very well put. Though I do want to make something very clear; I am in no way interested in purchasing a firearm due to my future career. I am not excited about the use of a weapon in the field of law enforcement. As you said, I hope to be one of those that never ever draws the weapon from my holster. With that said, I am interested in buying simply due to the fire that lit within me the first time I shot a 9mm Glock at the range. It was fun, and it was an instant understanding of why the place was filled to the brim.

Most of the people i've been speaking to have advised if i'm going to buy my first weapon and I happen to be interested in LE, to find the gun i'll be trained with. I liked this idea so I did research on the 4006TSW and loved the reviews and the history behind it's birth. It's kinda like what rwsmith said, I didn't wanna settle for something I wasn't craving. And since many of you insist $700 isnt all that bad for the 4006TSW in this market, at the time, I went ahead and placed my bid at the last minute for $700. I won the bid without competition and I should be receiving my 4006TSW soon. :)

Again, THANK YOU ALL.

Congratulations, you bought the gun of your dreams. I'm genuinely happy for you and know how you feel. I'm glad I bought my 686 when I did because about 2 weeks later Sandy Hook hit and they've done nothing but gone up in price ever since.

ALSO, if one day you decided to leave the gun business altogether, either me or my family will recover much of the cost if they were to sell it.

Now, don't you FEEL a whole lot better???:):):):):):)

Welcome to the family of S&W firearms owners. Wheather or not you go into law enforcement, you have a lifetime of fun ahead of you as a firearms enthusiast.

Enjoy, and first and foremost....

Be safe.

Oh, one last thing. There is a rule on the forum.... it didn't happen without pictures!. We all enjoy pictures. Look forward to seeing several of your acquisition.

Congrats on the new purchase! Looks like a fun gun. Also, like the others already stated; there is no reason to deny yourself a good .22lr to accompany you during your range time. I always take one with me to do a little plinking while the big boys are cooling down.

Plus you can never own too many .22's (I have four and am always on the look out for another one :D)

Oh, I figured you weren't a nutter. You just have to be careful, in this day and age.

I do predict you'll find yourself with a .22 at some point, though! They're almost unavoidable.

The Smith DA/SAs aren't bad, and if you really, really want one--then it's never a bad choice. Since it's used, even if you decide you don't like it, you can get almost all of your money back out of it (hint: never trade it in, always sell it yourself).

And later on, you can always brag about your good taste. I like to joke (in poor, sexist humor) that the S&W DA pistols are like Sigs, but for men.

Congratulations on your wise purchase. It will never be worth less than you paid for it.

Shooting the .40 S&W will let you become accustomed to the recoil impulse unique to that round. Finding out what the CHP issues as their duty round would be a good idea, although your firearm will feed and cycle with anything run through it.

As has been pointed out getting in peak physical shape will be more important than any shooting skills you can develop going in.

I have several .40 S&W 3rd gen firearms and they are my favorites.

Folks, BAD NEWS! Since I'm a novice, I guess I was unaware of California's "DOJ Roster" which is a freaking list of guns you can purchase from FFL's. Before sending in my payment, my boss happened to mention the list. I looked and the 4006TSW or any 4006 for that matter is NOT allowed to be purchased through FFL's..... I'm so upset by this. I contacted the seller about it and explained im a newbie... hopefully he understands. What a shame.

THAT'S OUTRAGEOUS! Join the crowd that want to put an end to this nonsense.

That's also why sellers hate to deal with CA customers.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Im beyond upset by it. The seller hasn't responded yet. I am sure he is upset, he just thought he has a $700 sell. What a shame. Are there any repercussions for not sending in payment on an item you won in auction?

If your goal is to become a California Highway Patrol Officer, focus on developing a public service mentality. Becoming physically and mentally able to handle the rigors necessary to be useful to the public and fellow officers is key. You will have plenty of opportunities to become proficient in the use of firearms and the myriad of other tools necessary to perform efficiently and safely. Your enthusiasm is admirable and shows much promise. Broaden your focus past an individual weapon and consider the totality of the awesome responsibility and privilege of becoming a public safety officer. You are exactly who is needed out there.

My friend, thank you for your words. As a young man trying to make a dream come true, it's ALWAYS very appreciated to get uplifting words like so.

I will broaden my horizons, I just wish my state didn't force me to. My goal with getting the 4006TSW wasn't entirely because that's my focus for academy preparation, just more or less an excellent gun that I know I would love(Partly because my dream job includes it lol). I'm very in tune with the rigors of police work. I respect the responsibility and can only find in good time whether I am fit to uphold that responsibility, but for now im most preparing physically and mentally as you said.

Thanks again.
