First range report... Not so good.

I loaded both mags with standard round head 115gr. Magtech 9mm ammo. Slapped the mag in and racked the slide, took careful aim and "click".. ***! I attempted to rack the slide and it was stuck!!! Finally it released and ejected a perfectly good round with a light strike.... Hmmmmm. Let's do this again. This time I watched the slide seat itself, I took aim squeezed the non gritty trigger and boom.. With big smile I took aim again and pulled again... "click"... &$^%#{]+*!!!!!

Same thing with the second magazine. And with another flat head type of ammo. The slide don't return all the way back in so the extractor claw don't grasp the end of the casing. Only now and then it feels like doing it.. The slide is 1/8 of an inch from seating correctly. All function tests work great with or without snap caps. Go figure..

I was at it for three hours and managed to shoot five rounds.... :(

So I called S&W and are now waiting for return info via email... That has taken 4 hours now and no mail. Sigh....
I have no doubt that they will eventually make it right. But we all know how it is... My new baby is busted :(

I'm not giving up yet but so far this blows.

That sucks. Are you sling shooting the slide or following it back?

Hope you get it figured out.

Btw, what model is it?

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. You're sure you weren't riding the slide at all? I'm sure S&W will make it right. They have taken care of me on warranty before. Keep us posted

It's a fullsize m&p 9mm.

Being new to pistols... I have no idea what sling shooting is so I don't think I am doing that :)

Rack the slide all the back and release it... Ready to shoot.

See that's what I was thinking too... So I took it to my local gun store where I bought it... Low and behold they had a S&W event going on and one of the S&W people graciously took it to the indoor range in the shop had same results.

I was doing the right thing the gun was not :(.. 7-12 business days to wait. After they get it... Hope they hurry up and mail the label.

Did you try a different brand of ammo? That would be my first thought.

Yup, magtech 155gr. Round nose and magtech sub. Flat nose 147gr? And American eagle red box.... Boy I wish it would have been that.

By chance did you disassemble the gun after you bought it?? Sounds to me like maybe the recoil spring is not properly seated. Did the guy from S&W take it apart and inspect the slide/frame?

Sorry to hear of your problem. I had a problem with my new shield about a year ago...got it back within 2 1/2 weeks all fixed. It happens.........

I did break it down and cleaned it and lubed it. The spring is seated good... As was when I got it. The S&W dude did take a cursory look.
Yeah, I know they will fix it but I'm like a whiny baby cuz I want to shoot it now :). We all know how it is.

Just sent a gun back for minor repair...3 weeks door to door and running perfect now. Smith will take good care of you and the time will go fast...kind of.:o

It was supposed to be sling shotting but auto correct got me.

It's just that, rack the slide all the way back and release.

I'm curious what the problem is...

How long did it take to get the shipping info ?

It sucks that you've had this problem. I have no idea why it's doing that.

They usually get the shipping label to you in a day or two. I expect you'll see it by Tuesday.

S&W got my pistol on the 23 of October now it's 20th of November. Yesterday I called S&W and they say maybe another week or so... :( . How common is this? Also they would not be able to notify me when it was shipped. ***? How do I know to be home to sign for it. Should it take this long? I know I know... Whiny antsy pants. But wouldn't you be too? :)

It came on the 28th of October ... I got sick of waiting and called again and got it via email. But the printed one came on the 28.

I would suspect they are very busy still checking out Shields for the safety alert. As for not being notified when shipping back to you, FedEx will leave a nice little slip on your door saying sorry we missed you. Congrats, you've been notified your gun is back!! Take the customer number on the slip, go to FedEx.com, enter your number, and select keep at local FedEx customer center for you to pick up later. At least this way your not sitting around home all week just waiting. Hope they get it out to you soon.

That would explain it.. I didn't even remember the recall on the shield's.

They are usually much faster. Indeed, it could be due to the Shield debacle. You can always call them and bug them more, but you shouldn't have to. I too would be antsy.

Magtec ammo had known issues with their ammo being oversized and getting stuck without letting the slide fully close. I had it happen with their .380 ammo in my Ruger LCP, so I checked it with a micrometer and it was a few thousandths oversized, compared to other brands and the reloading book. Check the ammo.
