Well i finally got a chance to get to the range and man did i have fun:D I got a new grip (hogue) for my M&P 9 and i absolutely love it. Also i got to break in my new 15-22:D The once i figured out the sights it tore up the paper. I was shooting Federal match 350ct and the rifle ate it up. About halfway through the box of ammo i started getting Failures to eject. At first they all came from my pinned 25rd mag so i set that aside and continued with my short 10rd mag. Eventually the short mag started it as well. The more i shot the more frequent the failure. I am pretty new to firearms in general and this is my first rifle and first range trip. Any ideas on what it could be? Dirty fed match ammo? Ill try some Geco next time to see if that works any better. I had about 20 failures all together and the closer to the bottom of the box i got the more it happened. All in all i had tons of fun shooting this rifle and cant wait to get back out there:D

most of the failures looked like this.
9MM target
22lr target (not trying for accuracy just testing the rifle)

Did you thoroughly disassemble, clean and lube your new 15-22 before firing for the first time? Federal Match should cycle without issue in a normal operating 15-22.

I did fully clean and lube before the trip
the mags were loaded correctly and staggered
everything was great at first then got progressively worse. No issues untill about the 250 mark.

just pulled the bolt and everything is very gritty. Not just dirty but gritty. I could feel it when i pulled the bolt out. Not sure if this is norm for a .22lr but here are some pics. like i said first rifle firt .22 first trip. Any help or info would be appreciated.

Ive had failure to eject when the round count starts increasing. Generally a quick wipe down of the bolt and guide rails with a towel is good enough when that starts occurring.

The residue is normal since 22 ammo has varying degrees of dirtiness (depending on brand).

Thanks Sithlord!! Ill keep that in mind next trip and try the quick wipe down and see if that fixes it! I have read some have a problem with the Federal automatch 350 ct.

Although i have not had issues like this with my rifle, but assuming the rifle, bolt face and chamber face and ramp were clear of debris then the issues could be ammo related.

However a few things to note, never over lube the bolt assembly...only a tiny bit on the rails is all that is necessary any more and the dirty gunk from .22lr just clogs things up as it sticks to the lube.

There have been issues with the ejector not being far enough across in the bolt, which has stopped rounds being ejected...i have even seen on here that someone's extractor spring had all but rusted away so it may be a good idea to have a quick look at these two things. However seeing that it cycled great for 250 rounds it seems to me that it is a combination of gunk build up and bad ammo. Change ammo and try again :)

Keep us informed of your progress...and there are vids about the ejector and extractor issues on youtube. :)

Typical of overlubrication. The ONLY lube needed is a single small drop of CLP, or something similar, on the extractor pivot pin, the hammer pin and the trigger pin, the bolt stop latch pin, and a drop on each of the bolt rails. There is no need to put any lube on anything else, including the bolt body.

On my 15-22 the issues you are seeing were caused by a loose ejector. I sent it back to S&W twice for this, each time they sent it back fixed. However, the problem would come back. When I finally bought a barrel wrench from one of our fine members (you DO have a barrel wrench, right? :D ) I found that the design of the ejector and the way it is installed means that this problem is likely to keep happening. Fortunately it is easy to re-seat the ejector if you have the wrench and a set of barrel vise clamps.

Basically, the ejector slips out of its capture spot in the barrel breech block and starts wiggling around about 1/16 of an inch. This is enough for the extracted shell to miss the ejector hook sometimes. So, sometimes the extracted shell hits the ejector and is ejected. Sometimes it misses the ejector hook, but still dribbles out of the action through inertia and blind luck. And sometimes it just never leaves the action and gets squished when the bolt cycles and tries to chamber a fresh round.
To check this, see if you can wiggle your ejector. It should not move. If it does, then that's probably the problem.
If this turns out to be your issue, you can send it in to S&W to get it fixed under warranty, and you probably should the first time. But for my money, if it happens again, it's a lot quicker to fix it myself.

Often with 22's, the difference between shooting 250 rounds and 500 rounds reliably is the ammunition.

Shot 350 of the same today with no FTE or FTF. Maybe just my lucky day! Hope you get it figured out!!

Thanks for the help guys! Ejector is not moving. I will try cleaning well and lubing less. Hopefully i can get out next week and try it out. Absolutely love shooting this gun. It is so much fun:D I would like to get a red dot sight but not sure i can give up my beloved carry handle:o Thanks again guys. Ill keep you posted

I've put 500 to 750 rounds through my MP in a range session and never once had a failure. Seems like something has to be off.

It used to be the oracle at Delphi, now it is Google.

There are always workarounds and solutions :)

You could also angle mount a micro red dot?

I think you mean extractor,it's on your bolt. The ejector isn't suppose to move😉 Sometime the extractor can get a build up of residue under it.

Nope...my post was a direct response to his carry handle dilemma.:p
