Hi this is my first post on this forum I purchased my first S&W this week a Model 30-1 chambered in .32 S&W Long sweat little gun no recoil to speak of surprisingly accurate since these pic I put Stag Grips besides looking great they are wider then the stock grips so it fits my hand much better I don't believe this gun was a carry gun it dosnt look like it was ever in a holster it probably sat in someones night stand drawer for 40 years. Friends tried to get info on it best they can figure it was manufactured around 1967 makes it about 47 years old

Welcome. That is very nice.
The 30-1 was made from 1961 to 1976. The "diamond" grips were deleted 1968 so assuming the grips are original to the gun the gun is from prior to 1968. If you provide the serial number or the first 3 digits followed by the appropriate number of X's someone will give you a more narrow date range. Are the grips numbered to the gun. You should find stamped numbers on the inside of the grips and hopefully they match the serial number.

Welcome! If you feel comfortable with posting the first few digits of the SN (like H 123xxx) we can give you a ship year estimate, but your friends probably have the same info we do. The stocks (if original) would date it to no later than about 1967. Enjoy!

Thanks for the replies the serial # is 789xxx and the grips have a maching # this gun is an awesome shooter even with S&W Shorts probably gonna shoot this gun a lot so I might buy dies for reloading this caliber

I think it needs some friends. I'd start with Models 36, 37, 60 etc.
Very nice revolver btw.

I think your right but here in New Jersey we have to wait 30 days between handguns so it may take awhile.

Put some Stag grips on it I love the look plus there are spacers on them so they are wider then the originals and fit my hand better. Can anyone give more specific info on this gun serial # 789xxx.

You'll likely have to go the factory letter route to get a decent date unless someone comes along with one that's close and knows the date of theirs. The book only lists "1961-1970. M30, 31. 712954 - 826977"

Welcome to the forum "Shortfuse"! That's a really nice gun you have there but I'm so extremely glad I don't have to live under laws like those of New Jersey. If I did, I'd be looking for a new place to live and call home.

nice, just the first of many more. s&w wheel guns start to grow on you.

Very nice looking model 30-1! I have it's square butt version, the model 31-1 in 2". Is that a target hammer I see on yours? It looks like the hammer spur is wider than normal. I didn't know they made target hammers for these. I thought that the wide spurs only came on the .22s. I also have it's stainless brother, the model 631 in .32 H&R Magnum:

Envious of the 631.

Nice 30-1.
i have a 3" 31-1. It's the square butt version of the 30-1.
Very easy shooting revolver.

If you get into reloading, .32 Long is a great round to load.
It takes very little powder.
I load 1.8 grains of Bullseye under a Hornady hollow based wadcutter.
I also cast semi-wadcutters for mine.
I've thought about modifying my Lee mold to make it into a Keith profile.

The Hammer was replaced by S&W before a bought it as you can see by the pic you are correct the replacement is twice as wide as the original

Nice score! ;)

I was scanning the classifides on another forum and it appeared one day and it happened to be one of my local FFL's right up the street I was waiting for some purchase permits so I gave him $100 deposit and he held it for me $375 out the door.
