I took my new SW M&P 40 to the range the other day and ran a few rounds through... I love it! Very nice shooting gun, and I'm actually fairly acurate with it.

The only compliant I have is that it takes a bit to load the clips as they are tight for sure. Mine came with 15 round clips, and around the 9th round, it gets difficult.

I saw other post where others experience the same issue. I used the auto loader, and it made it easier.

Congrats on the new gun I just got one today and can't wait to get to range on Tuesday

Keep the mags fully loaded, at all times, and the spring pressure will fatigue somewhat over time. The last round or two will still be difficult, due to the spring pressure buildup.

You have picked a great gun. I've had my FS40 about 4yrs and thousands of rounds with no problems. I would highly recommend a UpLula like Brotherdave. They will save your thumbs. Now try to find some more 15 round mags and quick! What part of Southern Ill are you from?

I just picked up a new M&P40 this week as well, but I bought mine as Range & Carry kit and it included a Uplula magazine loading tool that is just awsome. Like you I had a difficult time trying to load these brand new magazines by hand, but the Uplula works like a charm. I have a question for you, can you check if your slide spring assembly screw is loose. This is easiest to check when the pistol is in slide lock (breach open) and the slide screw will stick out of the front of the gun just under the barrel. Mine was very loose and I was worried that it may back out all the way and the whole slide spring assembly would then fall apart. I started a thread on the M&P forum on this subject, but I thought I ask to see what your experience was with your new M&P40. Thanks.

Congrats on the new M&P 40. It is one of the best defensive pistols on the market today and was designed for the 40 S&W round from the ground up.

Congrats on the new .40cal. I love my FS so much it has replaced my Glock 19 as my main home defense handgun. I had to re-up my MN permit to carry this week and used my .40 for the range qualification...reminded me just how much I love to shoot it! +1 for the UpLula, it makes loading your magazines effortless and is well worth the money. Enjoy your new gun!

Hi, Good advice! I pciked one up today, and they sure do make it easier :)

Mine is a little loose. I noticed that when I bought the gun as well, and the gun shop i bought from told me that was normal. Now, with that said, with the slide back and locked, it's loose, but not too loose.

Hi,

I just read you post in another thread about how loose it was and the issues you are having. Mine is no where near that loose. Nothing like that at all. I would definitely take it to a gun sho and or contact SW to exercise the warranty.

I called the gunshop where I got my gun and they checked another FS M&P40 to see how loose it was. They said the slide spring to guide rod screw was completely tight and was tighted right down to the end of the guide rod. When I tighted my M&Ps guide rod screw down tight to the rod when I first tried to fix it, it compressed the spring and overall length of the assembly so much that it was too loose to stay in place in the slide. I then backed out the screw until it would stay in place by its own pressure. Something is just not right. The gun shop told me to bring it in so they can take a look at and see what we need to do to fix this issue. Other than the spring/guide rod issue the gun shoots great.

Yea, that doesn't sound right at all. Please let me know what the resolution is as I'll keep an eye on mine for the same issue
