First Time Carry

After finally getting the belt I ordered from Daltech last week, I put my CCW to use for the first time today!

The belt and holster (Bianchi Suppresion) combination worked very well with absolutely no printing wearing a untucked t-shirt. I ended up going to Walgreens at one point and had to leave the firearm in the vehicle as they had signage posted. Not the usual prohibitive sign you see, but one that had verbiage about "you may be in violation of law... " seemingly relating to the face they sell alcohol. I just figured I wouldn't take a chance.

In any case - my carry virginity is no more...lol

Nope you're still a cherry until you do the Wal Mart Walk:D
 
When in doubt it's usually better to just leave it in the car. The question is, did you look up the law when you got home? The sign could have been wrong. It's good to verify that you're right, but also good to verify if they are right.
 
Interesting what you can find on the internet. I had not heard of that before. I must admit, I've been carrying for a while now so, I'm sure I've done that walk in spades.
 
The tough one for me was at a Chinese restaurant all you can eat buffet,

I had my 1911 IWB. Getting up and walking across a crowded restaurant many times to the buffet, and getting crab legs. My hands were fishy, and it kept me from touching my cover shirt, or checking the coverage.

I did look it up, and the law regarding carrying on premises where alcohol clearly states that CCW holders aren't prohibited if they are not drinking or under influence. At least that's my interpretation of it.

Wow, I just looked at the Ohio law on this subject. It's more convoluted than California law.

I think you're right, but haven't been able to pin down the actual reference.

That is the funniest idea I have ever heard of, and the presentation, with the tactical map, is hilarious!

In fairness, however, the second most dangerous place in the world* is Wal-Mart at about 6 am on the morning after Thanksgiving, when I have literally seen angry shoppers fighting over some new toy or item, and the internet is loaded with video of the police having to respond to these crazies. So, I suppose you could need your CCW in Wal-Mart. The better solution, however, is simply not to go there (at least at that time).

*The most dangerous place in the world, according to Bob Dole, is "between [Senator] Chuck Schumer and a TV camera."

Not sure why but at one time stopping for nachos while in the WalMArt was De Riguer. I've never seen a Wal Mart that sold nachos though
 
glad you chose to be cautious. that being said, here in FL those signs are worthless. all they can do is ask you not to carry onsite. not a violation of law, they can and will ask you to leave. if they want to push the issue (i have dealt with this when i printed at the grocery) they can call LEO to assist. then and only then are you breaking the law if you don't comply. i avoid all places that post these signs. its an invite to thugs. even my bank has a sign that reads "report all gun related incidents to the local police" with the 911 and non-emergency police numbers. do i leave my gun in the car when i go there? no. it only says to report not its forbidden...
 
always good to be cautious. People in many areas are very touchy and too enthusiastic about the law.
In Illinois, the law is that a prohibited area is one the has 50% of it's profits from alcohol in the past 3 mo.
If a sign is posted the law states that it has to be the official state recognized sign 4"X6" on white background with black boarder ...etc.
Even with those
kind of rules, it's better to be safe.
 
I believe Target has the "rule" at their stores but I've not seen any indication of that where I shop.
 
I was back at Walgreen's today and was going to snap a pic of the sign in question. It was blowing around so much from being by a vent I couldn't get a good shot. it's a paper sign and is located about a foot and a half from the ground - very flimsy and not real prominent.

I have to admit that even after a couple of days I can see it's going to be a pain to carry until I get to know the "friendly" places. For now it's go up to door.... if there's a sign walk back to car - store in lock box... go back to door. You can bet I'll start making a mental list!
 
Good choice on the Bianchi Suppression holster! I have one for my 40c and one for my Shield 40. I found it when I was looking for an IWB holster to replace my MTAC that had broken. Glad the MTAC broke now, I like the Suppression way more, the mesh against the skin is very comfortable even in hot weather.

I like it more with each day. Though I do have another holster on order... Incog. Can never have too many options!

I was watching the video, thinking, "That Wal-Mart sure isn't very busy...not like the one around here...", and then the guy mentioned it was empty because of a snow storm the previous day.

Not to change the subject, but a local Waffle House was robbed here about 3 weeks ago. A local Government agency mentioned the robbery on FaceBook (looking for info.) and the bulk of the replies were about the fact that the Waffle House in question had signs on the door that basically said something like, "gun-free zone". Comments like," How did those signs work out?" and "It sure was nice of you guys to let the robbers know they would have an easy target...". I hate to see any establishments robbed, but they got what they asked for. The good guys didn't have guns so the bad guys could do whatever they wanted.

My point being, I will keep my concealed weapon on me reguardless of signs in stores or eateries. If they want me to leave because of it (chances are they will never know I have it anyway), all they need to do is nicely ask. I will gladly bring my money, my business, and my friends and family elsewhere that is safer and appreciates our business.

Only problem here is that if they call the police, you may be arrested.
 
Target has no "rule". They made a public statement "requesting" their customers not carry in their stores. It was more a bone thrown to the group Mothers Demand Action for Gun Sense to get them off their backs.

A realize the laws are different for each state. With the passage of the last round of gun laws in Georgia, most establishments must first verbally request for you to leave before you can be charged (regardless of signage)...as long as you are in compliance with the other state laws and regulations. Obviously, this does not include areas that are explicitly restricted to carry by the state laws themselves. It sucks if you live in a state that doesn't enforce laws and legal rights over individual signage that violates those rights.

I will also add, the areas where you can be "asked" to leave are also set forth in GA law. Other Establishments can always use the "We reserve the right to deny service for any reason..." angle, but can not come right out and say they want you to leave because you are legally carrying (again, unless it is an establishment which the law itself allows them to do so).

...And is another reason I choose to not shop at Target. Not that I needed another reason.
 
My first carry wasn't to Walmart. the first place I carried into, very nervously, was a Lowes. Since, and I've only carried for a few months, I've gone everywhere and the only places I stop and stow is if they have a clear sign. I'm very lucky. I live in KY and the worst they can do is ask me to leave.

Example, my daughter's boyfriend is a manager at a movie theater that has a sign. He's admitted that even if he catches me carrying, the only thing he can do is ask me to stow the weapon in my vehicle. Since I drive a Jeep (not exactly Ft. Knox) this isn't an option I prefer, so I haven't seen a new movie since I started carrying.

You are at a bit of a disadvantage because he knows you...and he knows you carry. I can completely understand not wanting to create a possibly stressful situation by putting him in a difficult situation (or yourself for that matter).

I carry when I go to the movies all of the time (and most other places). The only people that know I am carrying is me and me (well...and my date sometimes). I am the only person that needs to know. If an occasion were to rise when I needed to defend myself or whoever I am with, I would rather have that option available. They can get all mad about it later...after I save my life and possibly the lives of others. If for some reason someone did happen to notice, like I said earlier, all they need to do is ask me to leave. Even if i didn't "have" to by law, I will, just because I don't want to put the time and energy into legal actions against them, law suits, arguments, etc.... It's just not worth it for a movie or meal. And also like I said, I will be more than happy to spend my money (and my friends and families' money) at another establishment that appreciates law abiding people.

The best way to change the minds of places that put signs up prohibiting legal carry is to let them know how you feel about it with your wallet.
