First Time Disappointed in Dillon Precision

Don't feel too abused... so far I've been on hold with Magpul over 20 minutes listening to a never ending loop of Get Smart and The A-Team theme songs. I think they do it to torture customers and get them to hang up. :D

Be very happy they are not playing that Disney classic "its a small small word" in your ear you will be humming/singing it for two weeks!:D

When I had to send my Thompson M1 back to Auto Ordnance, they did indeed pay for all the costs for shipping to and from, all the work was warranty, and my experience with them not too bad. (I don't think a single carbine comes out of the factory functioning, so I think they're used to it). What surprised me was no notice it got there, no updates, and no send and tracking notice. Weeks went by, and one day the FedEx van showed up when I was in the shop, handed me a case, no adult signature or anything, and drove off. I'm not upset about it, I just found the whole thing odd, a "you'll get it back when it gets there" handling of things.

I buy a lot of things at Sportsman's Guide, especially when there's free shipping, and there were times I felt guilty about taking advantage of the free shipping deals. I've noticed they aren't having hardly any more free shipping days like they used to, and wonder if the freight changes yet again are why.

The cost of shipping includes picking and handling, in addition to the cost of postage or shipping service. If it takes 6 minutes from the receipt of the order by the shipping department to putting the package in a box for pickup, that's $10 in labor alone, at a conservative full burden rate of $50/hour. In response to another member, yes, every expense the company incurs, including advertising, is apportioned into the burden rate.

Depending on the packaging, minimum USPS rates for a parcel will range from about $2.80 to $5.80. If it's more than 13 ounces, the rates go up. USPS is the cheapest route. UPS or FedEx are much higher but traceable and faster.

Don't expect a small company like Dillon to have a system like Amazon, where a single employee might ship hundreds or thousands of items per hour through automation.

Wanna' save money, combine your orders. If you need it NOW, pay the man.

You knew how much it was going to cost, and you bought it anyway.
Don't like the price, don't give them you're credit card.
Sometimes you just gotta say NO .

Shipping AND handling....

Guys, unless these companies are shipping completely by robot they have to pay someone to box things up label it and get it on the truck so to speak. These folks don't work for love and kisses. They get paid. The shipper charges for their service and most add a fuel surcharge when the price of fuel is up. All that has to be factored in. I know it's a pain to pay what seems to be excessive shipping charges but there they are.

If you really want to avoid the shipping charges buy from a local dealer. You save on shipping and help to keep a local business IN business. Think about that.

Somebody has to pull it, write up a packing slip, put it in the mail and I'm sure several other operations. Handling is a legitimate charge, but can also be a 'hidden cost" kind of scam.

This is an advantage to brick and mortar stores that have higher prices, but since you walk in and out there are no shipping charges to inflate and profit from.

Every company I deal with including Dillon, Brownells, Numrich, Midway USA, Midsouth, Wolff Gunsprings and the like charge a minimum of $8.00 to ship the smallest product. My goal is to either "partner" with a shooting buddy or get a large enough order to justify the shipping costs.

I have recently seen ads from two companies bragging about their lower Haz Mat charges. This is a step in the right direction.

Dillon is one of the best out there to deal with. Outstanding customer service. Best warranty in the business. Couple extra bucks for shipping? Ok.

Regardless of where you buy, it's always about the shipping. They could certainly use usps frb for smaller orders. Midway used to be just as bad, until they got a bunch of complaints about cost. They gave since changed shipping methods & cheaper now for small orders. I know Dillon has a min, so I'll buy something else or if it's a small thing, like a powder thru die, I'll pick it up local, but then I am paying ripoff sales tax.

Is it okay to be annoyed now?

I ordered this small pouch a loooong time ago for $9.99 shipping and have not received it yet!

I am waiting for my credit card statement to get the exact date. I don't recall which card I used but expect the statements pretty soon.

Well, here's the latest.

They are on backorder and the fellow I talked to today (very nice, wish I'd gotten him the first time) confided they are "8 in the hole" or, in other words, 7 other purchasers have ordered and not gotten them.

I probably would not have ordered if I'd known they were not in stock as I never do that.

But, I'm over being annoyed, almost to the point of not caring.

I am surprised, a bit anyway, that they didn't send an email at least about the status.

Oh well....

Brother, you can be annoyed any time you want. We have no control over that. I don't know when you ordered it, but this thread was started 19 Jan. That's certainly enough time to be bugged in my book.

I ordered a product on 12 Jan and paid about $1,500 which is a tiny bit more than you. I haven't received mine yet either. Should I be annoyed?

No, Rastoff, you are from California, I think. So no annoyance, just sit on the floor and "Ummmmmmmm, ummmmmmmm, ummmmmmmmm.

See, don't you feel better already? :p

Besides, aren't you a trapshooter, too? We trapshooters never get annoyed with bad targets, squadmates "dancing" on the line, talking, etc. So a little thing like $1500 shouldn't bother you a bit.

Not to go to far astray from the original post by the OP, OOOOH,WAIT A SEC-I'm the op so I guess it's okay,

when one gets into trap shooting, at least in registered trap shooting, he/she finds out pretty quickly that the price of the gun is, or shortly becomes, one of the least expensive parts of the game.

I recall when I first started, the idea of a thousand or fifteen hundred dollar gun for trap seemed crazy. Then I saw the 10 or 15 thousand dollar guns.

Then I took my first trip to the Grand, spent 5000 dollars for shooting, motel, food, a few trinkets, and had very little to show for it.

UUUUMMMMM, UUUUUUMMMM, ....

My primary gear is Dillon, and their Life Time BS warranty is just that!
But, we can't blame them for S&H.
Have you ordered from that Mid Way place lately? Or, any other for profit business recently? I've begun to "extra size" my orders to save S&H costs. No longer do I make monthly orders, all due to S&H increase.

But yea'll, I paid $9.99 S&H for a powder bar...

Oh, heck.....Dillon is top of the line on all of the products with the Dillon name on it. I just compare from Midway, Gander Mt, and the entire Google search way. I had an issue with my 550 primer catcher/chute. I only needed one little part they shipped me the entire platform free the next day I was putting it in and pumping out rounds. As to the shipping and handling I live in Arizona and have to pay the tax and the fee. Just Google the product and compare. I try to support Dillon when I can and if the price is close, they are my state and they are great. I ordered some 357 158g SWC from Midway, after I placed the order I found the same product from another company at a better price. I just put that up to the cost of not looking for a better deal. Amazon had some speedloaders last year and if you have the Prime it is shipped free and in two days.
