Just came back from the local shooting range... and I am excited at how my new SD40VE did. The range was busy so they only allowed half hour slots... so I took my time (first time with handgun) and shot 50 rounds. The first pic I am posting is the first target I shot... 10 rounds at 12yds and 10 rounds at 15yds. As you see I was in the center diamond several times... most of which came at 15 yards. I think nerves made me go a little low left at 12 yards... so I definitely did better on the 2nd magazine. The second picture was at 20 yards. I shot my final magazine at 25 yards, but I left the target behind by mistake... however I hit the 8"x8" target on nine out of my ten 25yd shots! I am happy with how I did and can't wait to go again!

ISSUES: On my very first magazine, the action did not reset all the way after my 6th shot. By reset, I mean the slide stopped about 1/4 inch from closing all the way. This obviously did not allow me to fire again. I dropped the mag, emptied chamber and tried it all again... it did the same thing. I took out that particular bullet and set it aside to try another. Same thing happened with another bullet... actually it did the same thing with the rest of that magazine. I tried the next magazine and it seemed OK, but then it did the same thing but this time I wasn't able to open the slide. I called the range officer over because Im new at all this... and he muscled it back. At this point, I mightve only fired 15 shots. I went ahead and reloaded both magazines back to 10 and continued to shoot. I had no problems from then on out... everything was perfect! Do you guys think this mightve been part of "breaking in" of a brand new gun? I was shooting Federal 165grain FMJ American Eagle bullets... could that have been the problem? (doubtful since I went through 30+ bullets just fine).

Only other issue was that the white dot on my front sight disappeared or flew off, LOL. (Third Pic) It was kind of annoying, but laughable... just shows how cheap that aspect is on this gun. Can I replace that somehow... or is a little dab of paint sufficient?

Thanks alot everyone!

I was finally able to take my SD40VE to range for the first time this morning too. 150 rounds, the gun performed perfectly! Can't say as much about the shooter though. Was shooting low an awful lot(my target stand took a beating). Had fun but definitely need a lot of practice.

It sounds like you might have limp wristed it on those FTFs. Could have been an ammo issue or a mag not seated all the way as well. If you didnt clean it before your first range trip that could have something to do with it to.

I did clean it before going... But you may be right about the limp wristing, especially since it was in the beginning!

The front sight paint falling out is a very common problem.

Fingernail polish,Whiteout,Testers Enamel Paint,ect....

Take your pick just clean the little hole out really well before applying.

I used Denatured alcohol and applied fingernail polish with a toothpick.
