First Time Sigma Owner: What's All the Fuss About?

I paid $250 for a barely fired 9VE, so now I own a 9mm semi that will shoot 17 times without needing a speedloader or moonclip.

The trigger's exactly what I was looking for: something that won't go BANG while I'm fishing it out of the map pocket in my car.

And it's stupid simple.

What else could a guy get for $250 that'll beat that?

It seems as though everybody grumbles about the trigger,if you are satisfied with it then you are good to go..It will get better with use..
I have found mine to be quite accurate with both lead and jacketed bullets..I do like it,and won't send it away,but I really like the M&P..
The trigger is a bit better out of the box here in Mass where a 10lb trigger is manditory,at least when you buy from a dealer..What you decide to do is your business later..
 
I actually bought it because it was supposed to have a heavy trigger, and because it was cheap.

Can you imagine how hard things would get squeezed if the zombies were on my door handle and I was trying to get the loud end of a pistol pointed in the wrong direction? :shock:

I don't need or want a lighter trigger inside my car.
 
The trigger out of the box can be a bit grunchy. If it is new you can send it to one of the S&W service centers for smoothing which improves shootability. I bought mine used and smoothed (but not lightened) the trigger group myself. To me -- it feels like a good double action revolver trigger and I like double action revolvers. It fits my hand well, has been as dependable as a stone ax, was inexpensive, came with 4 hi-cap magazines, shoots nice tight groups if I do my job and is (to my eyes) attractive. What's not to love?
Mine is my house gun and stays in the end table next to my bed. When the dogs bark at night it is comforting. If you like yours thats great. As far as the Sigma bashers go ... $%$^*!! them if they can't take a joke!
 
When I was looking at 9mm handguns, the triggers on the Sigmas I tried at gun shops were a big negative. I bought an M&P. I was also influenced by my son-in-law who worked at a gun shop and had a low opinion of the Sigma. Turns out he had the same low opinion of the M&P until he shot mine.

I've since fired a couple of Sigmas. The triggers weren't as bad as I thought, nothing that a few quality minutes with a Dremel wouldn't fix. I was also able to fire them with reasonable accuracy. The owners opinions were that they were reliable and essentially problem-free. I'm not that big a fan of 9mm and don't own anything in .40, but if price, opportunity and mood met, I could see getting one.
 
Doc540, I guess it is the "wild-eyed southern boy" in me but every time I hear some Mall Ninja railing about how his or hers brand X gun, motorcycle, coffee pot,, etc. is better than my brand Y etc. (given their sample size of 1) I question their experience. Granted most consumers purchase based on emotion not logic. It sounds to me like you purchased your Sigma based an informed decision about the features that best met your needs: caliber, safety design, trigger weight, price...; and you are happy with it. That is because you defined you expectations and purchased a pistol that met them. Good for you! On-line forums are a good place to exchange information based on experience. Maybe we as forum members need to do a better job of setting parameters when defining our questions. It would improve the applicability of the responses we get.

And maybe that second pot of coffee this morning was too much

I bought my SW40VE when they were $250 after rebate and now they're $340.I'm very satisfied with mine but then again I like DA revolvers and shoot well with them too so the trigger is not a problem for me.It just feels right in my hand like it belongs there !
 
Let me know when there's a better deal out there than the S&W Sigma.
 
I picked up two SW40VE's today. I cherry picked from a total of 6 guns. My 2 have heavy but smooth triggers and I find the grip to be the most comfortable for the fit to my hand of all the plastic guns. The Sigmas cost me $590 for 2 and I looked at a M&P40 FS and it was $579 and I could not get the grip to feel half as good as the Sigma...Also picked up 2 extra mags and 200 rounds of Fed ammo...$750 out the door.

I think you'll find every Sigma VE has a heavy, smooth trigger. I really like the 40VE and I'm sure you will, too.

Well, I found a couple today that were heavy and gritty. I can live with smooth.
 
congrats on the sigma! i love mine...i dont even mind the trigger. good gun and a good price, plus a lifetime warranty? forgetaboutit.....
 
I also have a sigma that I use as a boat gun , or riding ATV's, Great gun , Great price, Simple & does the job. If I want perfection shooting I will break out the Kimber or any of my other competition guns.

Exactly. That is the essential truth about the VE. An affordable system more than capable of getting it done without the price tag of more accurate pistols. The American AK, the Sigma is a good choice for budget-minded consumers. I rate my 40VE as one of my all time favorite handguns. I've owned a mess of 9mm semis and 38,357,44sp- revolvers, I own only one 40S&W and see no need to replace it. I miss the days (last year) when S&W was throwing magazines and range bags and rebates at you to buy one (I bought a 9VE), but my 40VE bought used for $189 is carried with me more often than my 2 ton M639 that can thread a needle at 30 feet. Hi-Cap, light and accurate enough, the Sigma is the best overall system I've seen in a long time, maybe since the Mossberg 500 when it came with 2 barrels for $180.
 
Yep a Sigma is a gun that you won't have a fit if it gets scratched or dropped in the mud.
I call the Sigma the GMC of the S&W line.

That pretty much describes my whole collection. They all have some scratches and scrapes, and if any one was to fall in the mud, I'd just clean it off. None are 'purty' but they all work. BTW, my SW40F has the best 'feel' of all of them, and it's been one of my favorites since it was new.
 
Picked up my 40VE for $295 used..
trigger's just like i'm used to(previously owned a 92D)..
Did look at a Hi-Point C-9 before the S&W that was going for $180.(approx) but not knowing much about the maker..i spent the extra $100. for a company i know.

(i really need range time with it though,dry firing doesn't cut it)
