Should I buy another Sigma?

I forgot to mention that I have yet to have a single malfunction. I have complete confidence in my SW9VE. Granted, I have only a couple of hundred of rounds through it.

There are many here that have thousands of rounds through their Sigmas without any problems.

I have 1000 rounds through my SW9VE. Accurate and reliable. If I don't get to the range this weekend, next weekend for sure!

How can you dry-fire it so much? Pulling the slide back to cock it again wears me out quick. I like practicing that way, tho.

Yup, the rumor mill gets started up pretty easily. "Some guy" has a bad experience with a paticular product and deems it junk. He then tell his friends, family, coworkers, whoever he thinks should know. These people trust the advice of "some guy" because they know him. Why would he steer them wrong? In turn all those people spread the word for that product off of some guy's one bad experience and soon 100 people that don't even know "some guy" are now experts on that particular product.

This is exactly how we get most of our info for everything. Everyone is also guilty of starting the rumors, good or bad. I think The Sigma is a great low priced handgun and that's what I tell people that do not own one. I've had good experiences with it. Maybe a friend of mine tells others what I've said and down the road somebody purchases one on my one good review that has spread to people I don't even know. I'm now "some guy".

Before you've actually owned something you always try to research it and read reviews. I do anyway. Any gun I buy is always looked up on the internet 1000 times before I decide to buy or not. I talk to people I know and trust but, we all know most advice is based on what somebody heard from "some guy". Kinda hard to avoid.

It's great if you can find someone that actually uses the product you are looking to buy and maybe you can try it out first. Make your own opinion but that's not often the case.

Sonic, well stated.

Don't forget that people tend to be more vocal when they are critical of something. There are those that sing the praises of a good product or experience.

I know that I personally become a lot more informed of a product when I have a problem with it. This is why I get the feeling that a few bad products gives an entire product line a bad reputation. There can be one million good components, but the 5 people with bad components are the people that tend to be heard.

I'm also thinking of buying a Sigma to take advantage of the rebate and to add an automatic to the .38 revolvers the wife and I own. Besides the 9mm being cheaper to fire, what are the other pros and cons of the 9mm and the .40? This will be mostly a range gun but would also serve as a better home defense weapon than our J frames.

Not any real pros or cons between the two and you already know that the 9mm will be cheaper to use. Maybe that is a pro for the 9. If you're going to be at the range alot you can certainly save money with it over the .40. I have a .40 and ammo is usually around $14-$15 a box for target ammo. It's not cheap to put 5-10 mags through it at the range and doesn't take too long either. I can get a box of 9mm target ammo for around $10 a box, alot of savings really.

But, if you're just gonna plink every now and then and the gun is mainly for home defense either one is still fine. Although there is the age old argument over which caliber is a better man stopper. In that case the .40 is my opinion. I keep my Sigma in the bedroom just in case but wouldn't hesitate to use a 9mm either. Both great guns and will cost the same out the door, the 9 is cheaper to feed though.

I've dry-fired my S&W9VE until my hands got sore. We had it out at the range again yesterday and learned that Monarch and Remington ammos are reliable.

I cleaned it up and gave to my son-in-law for his motor-home. I miss it already.

What am I going to do?

After I went through all the trouble of breaking in and getting my SW9VE to be sweet and reliable, my son-in-law 'confiscated' it for his motor-home.

Oh, dear, oh, dear, what shall I do? ;)

I have owned a SW40VE for years, and have never had a problem with it. I don't keep track of rounds fired, but I have to have fired at least a 1000. My sons, my wife, a lot of my friends and their wives have shot it, it has never jammed.

I think that you owe it to yourself to buy yourself another one...you know as a reward for your selflessness.
