Hey all, new to the forum, just found it yesterday and glad I did. Lots of great info here and Sigma lovers like myself. I bought a new 40VE just after last x-mas and I sure am happy with my purchase. I had been looking at the Sigma for almost a year before buying and went ahead and got one becuase at the time, the rebate was ending on 12-31-09. Obviously it was extended. I didn't buy it just because of the rebate, like I said I wanted one anyway but why not get two free mags with it as well?
Went right out and put 25 rounds through it and loved it. I did read a few reviews on it and was aware of the heavy trigger but found that it is not all that bad. It has a better trigger than my Taurus PT-111 for sure. It is heavier but not as long. Mine is smooth too, not gritty as some describe. I love how there is no safety too, just point and shoot.
Went out with it again and put 200 rounds down range but did have one jam on around the 100th round. I guess it was what is called a stove pipe. Cleared it and did the other 100. Since, I've put maybe another 250-300 rounds through it with no problems at all. I think it's a great handgun and it is now my home defense weapon that's in the bedroom. I trust it.
The .40 S&W is a great round and the Sigma is the 2nd handgun I own in .40. But, I've been thinking of getting another Sigma in 9mm. Do I need it? No. But do I want one? Heck yeah! The value of this gun to me is way more than I paid for it ($330 out the door) and to pass up another one at such a steal is hard to do. I do own two other 9mm's already (Ruger SR9 and Taurus PT-111) so I don't really need it but........ you know how it is.
Anyway, the one question I do have at this time is this:
I have heard from two different people (not people I know) that the Sigma 40ve is a more reliable gun than the Sigma 9ve. I don't think there is any truth to this at all and why would there be? But, just wondered if anyone else had heard this. The one fella who told me this was the guy behind the counter that I was buying the Sigma 40ve from. He said the 40 was a good choice and that the 9 seems to have more jamming problems. Don't know where exactly he got his info but working at a gun dealer makes you want to listen to him at least a little bit. The other who said this was just another customer (at a different store) who I struck up a conversation with. But, that's just what he a had "heard" just like me.
I think if this was something that was even close to true it would be plastered all over a forum like this one. But, just thought I'd throw it out there. Usually I'm a believer in the saying- You get what you pay for. With the Sigma you get a darn nice S&W semi-auto for just over $300 and that's a serious bargin. I think the lower price tag gives non-owners the impression that it is a cheap gun but we know that's not true.
