lots of good information here ,I bought a model 29 dash 3 in the mid 80's ,have only shot factory loads probably about a thousand roundsI believe it is a Performance Center gun ,barrel is so loose you can spin it freely gunsmith said do not shoot one more time due to safety ,I believe its manufacture defect do you think Smith and Wesson well honor warranty even though its was manufactured in the 80's

Do you really mean the barrel can be un-screwed by hand? Wow!

I think you would have to call S&W to find out for sure, but if it's their fault I'd like to think they would fix it.

Pick up the phone and call customer service repair and warranty. They have some really nice representatives who will advise you on how to handle the situation. Most likely they will take care of you.:)
 
Doesn't really unscrew but spins freely Dave,gunsmith hasn't seen one quite like this one, I will put pic up as soon as I know how too
