Fitness and Situational Awareness being overlooked?

I learned some Chinese martial arts when young never was good at it but good way to stay in shape and fun- I got injured and knocked down sick bad 3x last few years. Old now used it to rehab myself- on going.

I do some 1.)Chinese yoga then the 2.)24 Tai Chi Chuan form the Fo Gu Taichi* then work 3.) circle walk single palm change of Ba Gua. Next the above drill- 4.) "Ax Hand of Xing I" not the same system I learned but similar- this guy is good I am not lol.

Single palm change of Ba Gua above this teacher is skilled- another family system not the one I learned but similar.

Takes about a hour depending on how much energy I have, try to do it every day usually do 4/5 times a week. Not much chance I can use it well now for fighting- busted up. But good for mental alertness and over all health and got a lot of benifit from learning it 40 years ago- and can still do it, old man K.F. lol.

You have to find a exercise method that you enjoy or you won't do it- firearms are a martial art- the martial art- everyone knows that but if you learn a physical martial art H2H it will help the other- western or eastern either way. imo

*Forrest Gump tai chi- for slow learners lol :)

I find no one thing is the magic bullet. I started working out around 1973 and have been at it since then. Aerobics and strength training. It doesn't take as much Aerobics as many people think to keep ones heart healthy. Keeping arteries and veins flexible keep the heart from having to work hard, which is where most people end up going down hill. Getting some Aerobics and a healthy diet keep arteries healthy. Strength training keeps muscles strong so that the skeleton doesn't have to do the work of supporting the body the muscles do the work. And nutrition is the building blocks and fuel to keep the body functioning well. Who uses the crappies gasoline or oil they can get for the vehicles. Or use the poorest grade powder they can get for their ammo. I switched from a more typical American diet in the 1980's. My diet is built around protein and veggies mostly , with healthy fats and enough carbs to provide the fuel t9 run the body. I have worked out about 1.5-2 hours a day since the 80's. On days I don't work out I may be hiking, climbing, skiing, scouring the woods for mushrooms or other fun activities. I typically go several yeas at a time without a day sick. I figure health is likely to add more years to my life then carrying a gun will. But I have had my carry permit for 35 years. Hit the range 2-3 times a month and dry fire and practice drill for a few minutes most days.I figure trying to protect one's self on as many levels as they are willing to is a good way to go.

Tai Chi is excellent my wife's parents enjoy it for exercise and almost anyone can learn the basics. Low intensity, works to help joints, flexibility and balance. Things which are huge for those of more advanced age or even someone 35 such as myself. Excellent comment, thanks for bringing that up, I didn't even think of that even though Tai Chi should have been an obvious example of an exercise anyone can do.

Welcome! The 24 version is EZ to learn and for me its fun. There are five different versions of Tai Chi Chuan- Yang family is the most popular the one we all know about.

Glad your folks are doing Tai Chi, You can get a lot of benifit from it I know I did for sure. You should try it if you can find a teacher in your area.

"Chen" is said to be the original version if interested you can goggle "Chen Tai Chi Chuan" and it will come up on the tube.

Its pretty athletic and vigorous more combative type stuff. Any version of Tai Chi is good- the 24 Yang short form is enough for me.
