OK, the five incher pictures are hard to find scattered amongst all the postings here. So lets round 'em up and bring them home for our appreciation.
Seems like the 5" goes in an out of fashion (and production) more than most other lengths. (Right now I think it's out). In the 1980s the most common new model 29's I saw for sale were the 5" Classic with the full underlug.
Back before that, in the the partial underlug barrel the 5" (at least on N-frames) were even scarcer - maybe only special runs? If I'm not mistaken at least one of the old bulls of gun writing was the champion the 5" - was it Bill Jordan? John Taffin's books have only a few pictures.
It's funny because in the Colt SAA they two most popular lengths are both near 5". (The 4&5/8" and the 5.5")
