Flashmobs are gaining in frequency. What to do?

If one of these mobs happened upon where I was, and I defended myself with my legally carried firearm, my #1 worry would be, would I get shot by the police? I'd rather risk that than be beaten and battered by 'people' who have no respect for anything, but it might be easy to be mistaken for one of the many 'bad guys' when there are so many and the adrenalin is pumping. Granted I would try to get my back against a wall with my loved ones behind me for 180 degrees or less of an angle to work with for defense. Or better yet, if possible, to get the **** out of there! But that would mean turning my back on others who might need help, and I might not be able to abide that. Guess I should start wearing a hat that says 'GOOD GUY' in big green letters!

It boggles my mind that people can be so awful.

If that's the case, I posit that you haven't read much history.

Read Heinz Hohne's "Order of the Death's Head", Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's "Gulag Archeplago" or John Toland's "The Rising Sun".

"Awfulness" is second nature to mankind.

Most people in my state don't 'get it,' but that's why as a peace-lover, I am a gun owner.

Local newspaper says attempting to fight back will just escalate tensions. They say the best defense against flash mobs is to turn the other cheek to violence , and just walk away.

most "local newspapers" exist in a liberal fantasy land... at least the 1/2 dozen or so that I've read recently.

I have never met anyone less qualified to give advice about dealing with real violence than a couple of members of the media. I have been stunned by their gross inability or refusal to grasp reality...
Luckily, they aren't all that way.

Carry a backup gun, especially if you're using a revolver.

But, I think the Keith's point is obvious: after the bodies hit the floor or ground, the mob will move away from you.

Obviously a well thought out liberal response supported by MADD, the NAACP and a variety of liberal think-tanks. It's definitely time to take back our streets, our schools and our nation. We were once a proud country of hard working people who didn't expect or receive handouts and free rides. We worked for what we had, and if you didn't want to work, you got very little. Nowadays we coddle those who leech off society and pamper those who make our streets unsafe.

In the immortal words of the sargent major in the movie We Were Soldiers Once - "Gentlemen Prepare To Defend Yourselves". Pass out the rest of the ammo.

I'll be resting my cheek on the stock of my 870 and won't be walking away.

We had one break out here locally, it was called a "street mob" and not a flash mob. It was about 200-250 strong, clogged traffic, annoyed people and there were a few minor fights. The local paper hailed it as a group of people expressing their freedoms. All I saw were people that were yelling, screaming and acting like idiots. I wonder how many more of these will happen before the 2012 election, and will they get bigger as time goes by?

Well come to the State Fair of Texas, show your concealed license and walk right on in.....no problem...its not in a good area of town so it pays to be well armed.

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and was just browsing around until I came upon this thread.

Jtpur...thanks for the heads up on the CCL and the State Fair. While my family and I haven't been to the fair for awhile, my wife and I were talking about going recently. If we do, I will certainly do what you just described.

As for the flash mobs...even though I don't think they'd be stupid enough to try it here in Texas, you just never know. I have been carrying two pistols with extra ammo "just in case".

It almost feels safer to be back in Afghanistan, at least you don't have to carry concealed over there!

Flash mobs....

In the event you are someone is threatened with great bodily harm or death prescribe to the following: 1) Proper firing stance. 2) Align the sights with the target(s). 3) Proper breathing (as well as can be expected). 4) Apply trigger pressure. 5) Follow through after the shot breaks. 6) Assess the threat. 7) Repeat as necessary to ensure your safety. 8) CALL AN ATTORNEY. 9) Wait for the police to arrive.

---OR----

Retreat and become a witness for the police later. This being preferable, however not always feasible.

Yesterday in an about 20 miles from me, there were SIX young kids walk in a liquor store. One armed with a handgun and it was pulled on the employees. The other five kids began stealing the cash resigsters. Yep, they took all the cash registers. I have not read the actual report yet but I am guessing they also took some of the liquor.

One of the young boys was arrested last night. He was 13 yrs old. I would love to know his prior criminal history. It is going to be easy to get him to roll over on his accomplices.

This got me to thinking, which is difficult at my age. I would almost be willing to bet that an adult is behind this robbery. These bands of kids are being inspired by someone. They do not just get together and come up with looting, beating and such.

Just as with drug sales, the adults know if a kid gets caught there will be little, if any punishment. The adults furnish the kids what they need to get the job done and the kids do the dirty work, take the risk and face the results.

Not real sure that the local incident could be called a flash mob but it is the first time I have heard of six really young people robbing a store at gun point.

Is there any basis of fact to infer these flash mobs strike primarily in areas where carrying a weapon is not allowed?

I don't find any flash mobs reported in Texas....

Milwaukee and Chicago both ban weapons. Philly? No weapons right?
