Would it be safe to say any commercial ammo that you could find would be safe ammo....The Magtech has a Hollow Point version, or is there something better available........Didn't see any Buffalo Bore available

You have a winner! What is known as a .32 Hand Ejector if not marked Model 30, built on the new Model of 1953 I frame. Became the 30-1 when introduced on the J frame in 1961. With that s/n, the flat latch is the 3rd and last style:

1st style flat latch on this Baby J frame.

2nd style flat latch began on the I frames and Baby Js just prior to the Models of 1953

3rd style on this Pre-36.

They are sweet shooters, very accurate and will safely shoot anything made in .32 Long on the market today!
This is my 4" 30-1 J frame homemade target version:

I don't like the .32s all that much. Yours would be like the 2nd from top on the right but with round butt like the "Improved I frame" above it:

Now you've done it forsyth793. You've gotten Hondo44 talking about I- and J-frame 32s. That's like getting the Pope talking about True Religion! ;)

Some people like those flat latches... I've got one on my Baby Chief that seems fine to me, but my niece with small fingers had difficulties with her pre-30, so we got her a later gun instead. :D

As for ammo, any commercially loaded 32 S&W (Long or "Short") will be fine in your Model 30. Several people here have also used 32 ACP in them with good results since it is only semi-rimless, but the pressures are a bit higher, so I would do this sparingly.

BTW, do you reload? Lyman makes a mould, the 311008 (formerly 3118) that drops a 115 grain semi-wadcutter. This is the heaviest bullet I like to use in a 32 S&W Long case. Start with the minimum load of a fast pistol powder like Bullseye or perhaps Unique and work up toward the maximum recommended load until you find the sweet spot for you and your gun. I generally like 95 grain SWCs in my I-frame 32 snub, but YMMV.

With the current buying frenzy, I doubt you'll be able to find much in the way of "special" ammo for sale. I know GA Arms has been absent from the last couple of gun shows I've gone to, ostensibly because their stocks are so low. :(

Enjoy your little Model 30, but be warned... they can be very addictive! :)

Froggie & Hondo..........

Thanks for the info, with this tutoring I have determined it is a 3rd style 2" round butt. I get by Villa Rica, Ga where Ga Arms is located and hopefully I can find some ammo. I think the 100 or so rounds I have now won't last long at the range.
