Flea Market 29-2

I don't know exactly when S&W started putting speed loader cut grips on Model 29 but it probably was not 1980. I sold my Model 29-2, 6", s/n N798908, on this Forum some years ago and it had factory checkered Goncalo Alves football cutouts. I had a Factory Letter and this gun shipped the last day of 1980, December 31, 1980. 2 pics below

My other 29-2, is a 6-1/2" serial number N439446, and per Roy it shipped in May 1979 and is equipped with very nice smooth presentation grips with football cutout. I haven't Lettered it yet but believe the grips are original to the gun simply because it came to me with all tools, documents, vapor paper, wooden case (flocking actually intact and pretty good shape). 3 pics below

The full speed loader cut started around 1981-82 depending on model, and like the barrel pin it depended on what was left in stock during the manufacturing period after the order was handed down for the change as to which one would be on a revolver made during that period. My M29-2 posted above is a higher SN than yours (mine is N662xxx) but shipped in July 1979 and has the football cut. I have a M27-2 with a SN higher than your M29-2 (N4479xx) that shipped in mid-Feb 1978, which goes to show that S&W's aren't necessarily manufactured nor shipped chronologically or in serial order.

GD Chrome Cannon. I LOVE it. When I got my first 44 Special (3") I touched off some rounds after dark at the deer lease and my hunting buddies named it "The Flamethrower"
