Float a 15-22?

Is it advantatious/possible to float a 15-22 ?
Know it's a big deal with .223s but see nothing about doing it with .22 Calibre.

Seeing as it's polymer, if you remove the bolt then there is a chance it could float, i suppose it's a question of surface tension and buoyancy

You can get the handguard convertor from Tacticool 22 and that will allow you to 'free float' the barrel, slightly more than with the factory barrel nut. It should within reason accept any AR15 handguard. I have yet to do this (as i can't settle on a swap yet) so i cannot comment on how advantageous it is on accuracy, i would imagine on aesthetics and feel then it is much better than either of the factory handguards.

Load of peeps on here have swapped and they will be able to tell you if it is advantageous...but it is certainly doable.

By 'float', I am going to presume you mean have a free-floating handguard, and not 'toss it in water and it won't sink'.

Since the 15-22 handguard is attached to the upper receiver at the barrel nut, it's already 'free floating'. You can safely remove the handguard end-cap without any issue. Flexing the handguard does not impact the barrel.

Now, flexing the handguard may impact the front sights...

Or you could just ask the question and hope someone would come up with an answer instead of someone just wasting space telling you to do a search.

I'd say take out the little removable piece on the end of the handguard, shoot it, and see if it makes a difference. From what I can tell, thats the only tension on the barrel as is. Of course, you would have to take off the flash hider to slide that piece off, but worth a shot.

It is possible, with the right tools, advice and patience to free float just about any HG.

You just need the right barrel nut converter, tools and of course the HG of your choice.

Mine as pictured with a Troy Alpha rail 13inch nicely wrapped round my 12.5 inch barrel.

Thanks to all the good folks here who offered advice, pointers, measurements and tips.

Very happy with mine.

As already mentioned the 15-22 already has a free-floated barrel (free floated handguard?!).

It doesn't have a barrel mounted gas system like a 'proper' AR so providing the end piece of the handguard isn't touching the barrel its as floated as its going to get. If it is touching, just remove the cap.
