There are many styles of carving, but the most common that we
see on holster are the Mexican style and the Sheridan style.
The photo on the left below shows a carved Lawrence on the
left, a Heiser in the center and a Myres on the right. Lawrence
is often mentioned as the best example of Sheridan carving,
while Heiser and Myres both used the Mexican style.

The photo in the center is my Myres Threeperson's style #614.
The flower that is typically used on Mexican carving is the
California poppy.

The photo at far right is a Hunter model 3100. I have been told
that the flower used on Sheridan style carvings is the five petal
wild rose. I have 8 Hunter carved models 3100 and they all
depict 5 petal flowers like the one shown.

My question, therefore is the Hunters Sheridan style carving?

My friend Red Nichols responded to my plea for help. He tells me that
Lawrence is the only one who used the Sheridan style, so that makes it
easy. All the others use the Mexican style. I guess Hunter just did their
own thing. I'm a slow learner, and then I forget what I have learned.

If you’re a slow learner then I’m a single cell amoeba relatively speaking when it comes to holster knowledge. As always, I enjoy the pictures and learning that accompanies these threads!

Some of you here might remember a couple of years ago I posted a
carved 200AW from Milt Sparks. In case you missed it, I will post it
again below left. They are still on their web page, so they must be
selling a few. Their engraver calls it Sheridan style carving.

Then I suspect that Eubanks might have been influenced by the Sheridan
style when he carved the Mexican double loop shown 2nd from left.
I broke it up into 2 pieces (3rd and 4th from left) to make it big enough
for you to see some detail.

5th from left, althogh it is difficult to see the detail, the black
carved Eubanks also depicts the 5 petal wild rose for a flower.

Both the Sparks and the Eubanks display a 5 petal wild rose for
their flower, which is a characteristic of the Sheridan style.
