Florida passes gun control measures

Like most "panic legislation" it will cause more problems than it solves but it gives the appearance of "doing something". Naturally there has been little discussion of drug use in this case.

Register for the draft? They still do that? Where have I been? I think the military is a great place for some of these young people. Maybe it will get some of them headed in the right direction.

When did it become the US military's job to become the reform/finishing school for Americas youth?

I don't think this is going to pass constitutional muster. If they had limited to to "assault weapons", it might stand a better chance.

Of course this is the same generation that had to be warned a short time ago not to eat the laundry detergent so I'm a little bit torn about letting them have a gun (or a car or a cell phone or anything with a sharp edge for that matter).

Your elders probably said the same of you. It's almost tradition.

Nah it's a different kind of maturity problem we have today.
In our day we where reckless at times and did stuff that was bad, but the things I see kids do today has my head spinning!

I have seen numerous cases of kids being so downright disrespectful to their parents that it's frightening. When I grew up if any of us kids in the family ever said a cuss word to our parents we might as well get out the shovel and start digging our graves. Today it's just the new normal.

I for one have no issue with the 21 year age requirement. I do think that people with military service should be exempt and I think that a .22 should be excluded for everyone over 18.

Fifty years ago the Army was a LOT better than prison. Better food, nicer uniforms-you got paid for it-didn't have to worry about being beaten up and sodomized by older inmates.

I find the legal age limit argument rather ridiculous. It started from the Vietnam war period when the legal voting age was 21. So on the argument that you're old enough to fight and die for your country at 18 the voting age was dropped to 18. 18 year olds in most stated were allowed to drink. However, 18 year olds (and 19 & 20) were too immature to drink so the drinking age was raised to 21. I always thought if you old enough to die for your country you should be old enough to drink before you got shot.

We don't seem what to do with young adults anymore. Most are becoming wards of the nanny state

I have been saying since they raised the drinking age to 21 that anyone with an active duty military ID should be exempt from any age restrictive laws, including drinking. Show an active duty ID at any bar and enjoy a beer, regardless of your age.

So does anyone know what the deal for bump stock owners is?

I've heard them talk about it, but haven't heard any details.

I write for the TruthAboutGuns.com and I also fight for the 2nd Amendment in Florida. It was a hard battle....

Me speaking to fellow gun owners willing to rally at the Florida Capitol.

We were sold out by the Florida Republican Party. A good number of the Republicans that sold us out are "A" rated by the NRA and Marion Hammer.

As a NRA Life Member and Life Long Republican I'm pissed off.

I certainly agree with that. Besides the Military 18 years can be law enforcement. Carry on duty but can't buy a weapon?? I don't think anyone has mentioned that under the Clintons the age to buy a handgun (and I think handgun ammunition) was raised to 21.

Just one more restriction, promise we won't add any more.

North Carolina Police Requirements state that the applicant must be 20-years-old for a police officer, 21-years-old for the highway patrol, and 21-years-old to be a sheriff's deputy.

Police department age requirements apparently vary from city to city.

In Charlotte, applicants must be 21. Raleigh requires applicants to be 21. Wilmington accepts applications if the applicant is 20.

Just as an aside, in Wilmington, the Physical Abilities Test is outlined below and must be completed in 7 minutes 20 seconds or less to continue in the hiring process. Applicants will be given one attempt to pass the test.

- Run 200 yards
- Step up on a step box 20 times
- 15 Push Ups
- 15 Sit Ups

- Run 200 yards

In Dead Possum, North Carolina, applicants must be at least 15-years-old and able to spit tobacco juice a minimum distance of 8 feet.

Thank you for standing up for our rights, and voicing the "unpopular" opinion.

This is exactly why I've hesitated on renewing my NRA Membership and haven't agreed with the Republican party for quite a while.

If you don't support the NRA you might as well go ahead and turn in your guns. The Republicans stabbed the NRA ( and us ) in the back." WE ARE " THE NRA.

Marion Hammer of the NRA as our lobbyist in FL said on October 2017 that Bump Stocks turn semis into MGs. Chris Cox of NRA-ILA supports the 4th Amendment violating "Gun Violence Restraining Orders".

I'm a life member and have seen exactly the issues NRA has. It needs to be fixed. There is a lot of folks in the top that collect funds and don't fight.

Marion Hammer and NRA-ILA gave out "A" ratings to Republicans that we're publically known to be anti gun.

Florida Senator Anitere Flores is a prime example of that. She voted yes for a Special legislative session to be called for gun control and a week later wrote Marion Hammer a pretty letter.

Hammer collects $300k a year.

I'm going to NRAAM and I still am a member. As a member, I will raise issues that need to be addressed and corrected.
