Let me preface this post by saying I am not one of those Philly fans who paints himself green, climbs greased poles, chants E-A-G-L-E-S at the drop of a hat nor have I ever booed Santa Claus. I support Philadelphia sports teams and I was thrilled to watch the Eagles win the Super Bowl last night, however...it has been a long time since I had watched any football, the antics on and off the field had gotten ridiculous, guys getting paid millions to play a game and acting like complete idiots with their celebrations on the field and criminal activities off the field.
Last season I decided I would give it another chance, I liked the addition of Doug Peterson and Carson Wentz and liked the direction the Eagles seemed to be heading, so I decided to watch again. Well, we all know what transpired at the beginning of this season, with the kneeling, the activism, and the NFL's decision to not take a stance. I took a stance - NO games for me this year. The kid Wentz had a spectacular season before an injury knocked him out, Nick Foles stepped in and kept the team together and kept them on a winning track. It took him the last 3 games of the season to knock the rust off and get back in synch, but once he did he returned to the level he had played at during his previous tenure with the Eagles.
First game I watched was the NFC championship game against Minnesota - I had to, I am Philly sports fan. When they demolished the Vikings I knew they had a chance at winning the Super Bowl. Second game I watched, the Super Bowl. The Patriots. A juggernaut. As much as I like Tom Brady and respect Bill Belichick as a coach, my heart was with the Eagles and what a SUPER Super Bowl the two teams provided. I doubt there was anyone watching who didn't think that with one minute on the clock there wasn't some way Tom Brady wasn't going to pull another miracle out of his hat (helmet). A drought of 58 years without a championship ended for the Eagles last night with one of the most exciting games in recent history. I can only imagine the madness that will be the parade later this week.
GO EAGLES!! Thank you.
