Hi Everyone,

I bought some ammo that I thought were FMJ.
When I opened the box, they were FMJFN (full metal jacket flat nose).
I have never used FMJFN ammo on any handguns before.

Those of you who have actually used FMJFN ammo in SD40VE or SD9VE handguns, my questions are:

1.
Did you experience any problems with them?

2.
Should FMJFN ammo be used in SD40VE or SD9VE handguns?

Thank you very much.

Yep, the .40 is a flat nosed round. Also called a truncated round. The SD has no trouble cycling this round.

in .40 yes. never seena 9mm in flat nose. even the JHP is srmi rounded in shap to keep the bullet profile

I get flat-nosed FMJ any chance I can, heavier the better. They seem to have less drop over longer distances and in a pinch they can stand in as a poor-man's defensive round until you get more HPs: the wadcutter shape will expand more and have more drag when impacting (more than ball at least). I like 147 grain+ as more mass is better for the deceleration needed to dump all that energy into the target and also lower the chance that it exits and/or penetrates barriers (again, compared to ball). Plus they usually cost the same, sometimes even less.

As an aside I like the felt recoil of heavier 9mm ammo also, seems less snappier to me.

In the last year I've shot a wide variety of ammo through my SD40VE and .40 shield. Rem UMC, WWB, Federal, Blazer Brass, Fiocchi, PMC Bronze. It's all been FN and all ran just fine.

Shoot it all and enjoy!

I just picked up some more 147 grain flat nose ammo. It's hard to find it in America Eagle, thankfully, there's an app were you can browse hundreds of companies that have ammo in stock.
