I got it done, Replaced Aortic Valve and 1 bypass. 3 weeks out of surgery and I don't feel too bad. Iwalk every day, I appreciate everyone who responded to How is the Recovery period, Thank You.
Having been on the table a few times myself, I am still struck by how commonplace heart surgery has become. Surgeons have become so adept through sheer repetition that the high success rate has all but taken the worry out of heart procedures.
I had mine replaced in June 2008, and I'm still kicking here at 78.
Nowadays, just a shortness of breath, but still doing things slower than I used to be.
Had mine replaced last June and then had pneumonia, so my recovery was a bit slow. Just about back to normal but get winded easily. I do 7 miles on a stationary bike 3 times per week w/o feeling winded but do sweat off a lot of fluids by the time 40 minutes is up. Just do the rehab and whatever else they ask you to do and you will be fine.
Did not have valve replacement, but have had open heart done twice. The first when I was seven years old (1958). I had a Ventral Septal Defect ( a congenital problem). They kept me in the hospital for three weeks and at home for one year. They did a good job I retired from the Corps after 24 years service with two tours in RVN and was around for Desert Storm I. The second was eight years ago and I was in the hospital for eight days and off work for 3 & 1/2 months. Went back to work and felt fine.
