Anyone load the Hornady brand 500 brass and have comments ? I'd be interested in your comments as compared to starline brass which is what I've mainly loaded

Thanks,

I loaded the Hornady at first, because it was all that was available to me at the time. It had the Large Pistol primer pockets. I had too many problems with improper ignition.

I found Starline with the Large Rifle primer pockets and promptly trashed the Hornady.

I only use the starline brass with the large rifle primer pocket.

I have been reloading for the 500 Mag for well over 5 years now, I ordered 500 of the Jamison International cases that have the Large Pistol primer pockets. I bought a primer pocket reamer and reamed them out for the Large rifle primers. They work great, I have reloaded some of them as many as 15 to 20 times.

I have 300 of the Starline and about 100 of the Hornady. All work great.

I suggest you buy a primer pocked reamer and ream any of you pistol primer brass or to rifle primer.

I've reloaded a fair bit of Hornady brass, just use pistol primers, no big thang. In fact, I loaded some alongside Starline with the rifle primers, same load otherwise, and chronographed both and the difference was undetectable, there was as much variance between individual rounds of the same brass as there was with different brands and primer types. Still, it's kind of a PITA to do two different types of primers and I tend to agree that going to one is probably a wise call.

Thanks all.

The Hornady I just picked up have large rifle primer pockets, and my starline cases are too. Just curious if anyone noticed any differences between brands. Longevity ,or any other differences ?
