This little (18" barrel) Mossberg 142A my dad bought me the summer of 1951 for my 6th birthday, it's done in its share of squirrels for almost 60 years now. It will out shoot my CZ 452 & 453 22's without any problems.

Not trying to start a firestorm here but would someone explain to me why you would want to shoot a squirrel.
From where I am sitting here in Australia they seem like such a cute little critter or is there something downright evil about them that I don't understand.

No firestorm. Squirrels look cute, but they're basically rats with bushy tails & good PR. The little buggers chew stuff (gardens), get into attics and tear things up, raid bird feeders, and according to popular lore, like to run into the roadway and cause drivers to go off the road. Properly prepared, they are tasty.

They are as described they are just a rat with a bushy tail, and will destroy fruit on tree's like apples by taking a bite or two out of an apple then throw it down to rot, they raid birds nest and throw out the eggs or eat the small new baby birds, you can't have a dog or cat dry food feeder anywhere the squirrels can smell it and get to the food as they will come through a pet door looking for food. I have even watched them chew on my cars mud flaps, never figured that one out but a well placed trap and peanut butter help keep the damage down until garage was ready.
