Would a K four digit frame number always have the one line "Made in the USA", or would there be exceptions that would have the four line address? I am looking at the Standard Catalog.
Thanks

With S&W, never say never. I've seen a lot of K22s, and all of the ones I've seen have that same 1 line. We can also say they're all 5 screw guns, but there might be an exception (probably not.) What we're talking about are the 150 guns made in 1946, and then the next 9850 guns made in 1947. Most of the 1948 guns also have that same info line, taking you up to about K70,000. Pretty solid evidence.

Where you start running into the Marcas Registradis crap is on export guns. You will also see the more modern stamp placed on some guns that were factory refinished. I had a beautiful Triple Lock with a 3 digit serial that had the 1950s vintage stamp. On the letter Roy stated that was one big reason they stopped refinishing old guns. People complained about the restamping.

Very interesting stuff. The one I am looking at has a ser # on the butt with a K 3000 something putting it in the 1947 year. But it also has the four line. I havn't handled it but just from pictures and owners description. The finish is supposed to be original.

The bad news here is that it will now cost you $50 to get a factory letter to discover that it originally was ordered by someone in Central America, etc. The old price of $30 is history, like 29.9 gasoline.

Be very cautious. Get more pics and the right to return.
Is it still satin blue? It should be.
Get CLEAR pics of the grip frame without the grips, and ck for refinish marks/dates.

rburg and handejector:

Thanks for the heads up guys. Out of curiosity I would like to get my hands on it for a close up inspection and see what the historical details are. But in this case I will pass it up. My search continues for a vintage '47, needing a little work is ok.
