The wife and I are thinking about buying a used Flex between 10 and 11 thousand bucks. I'd like to hear from those who have one or owned one in the past. The good, the bad and the ugly please. My biggest question is comfort on a trip from PA to FL.

I'm going to look at one tomorrow to make sure we can in and out of it, but this one had four owners, one accident and a little over 100,000 miles on it for $7,000, but we can get afford a better one. They seem to be scarcer then hens teeth around here.

I work for the County where I live, they purchased 2 new Flex's about 5 months ago. The drivers said they ride really nice and are comfortable. The complaints are a 15 gal fuel tank and not a lot of room for the driver to put his belongs near him. Other than that they are popular with the drivers.

Never owned one but try Carmax or Car Guru websites to compare.
There are a lot of them, in my zip code anyways.
They look easy to get in and out of.
Good luck.

Bought the wife a Flex in 2012, a silver, FWD Limited. She loved that car, it was roomy, drove great, and got her a lot of attention. Many of her co-workers called it their dream car. It was trouble free until 65k, when we had to replace the AC evaporator coil ($860). Still loved it at 112k when we had to have the front end repaired, that one was $1,235. Still loved it and we started thinking about trading it for a new-ish Flex.

Then just a couple of months ago 126K rolled over and the transmission started to go. Was gonna cost $4,500 to replace with a rebuilt unit and the car was only worth $8,500 with a good transmission. The once strong love was rapidly fading....

I had heard about a new larger Subaru SUV called an Ascent. Long story short, the wife has a new, red, station wagon looking ride. It is really a nice car, it's AWD and turbocharged, rides nice and full of safety features

As far as the Flex, we took many long distance trips in it and it was really a comfortable and reliable vehicle until the love went away at mile marker 126k.

I bought my wife a 2011, top of the line version, about 3 yrs. ago with 30K miles for $12K. It had a salvage title due to being rear ended, but was fully repaired. It has around 60K miles now and has been a great car, very comfortable, rides very smooth, reasonable miles per gallon, lots of room. One of the better Fords I've owned. We plan to drive it across the US & back this fall. Flip the 2nd & 3rd row seats flat and you can carry many large bulky items inside. It has the Ford "My Touch" system, same as my Lincoln Town car, that takes a bit of getting used to at first, but if you persevere it will do everything but the laundry, and it may do that if I can find the right setting! Great car. I generally get rid of cars at about 60 to 70K miles, but I think I'll keep the Flex until I see signs of any major problems ahead, although I have a 1988 Ford Aerostar cargo van that has 225,000 miles that "takes a lickin & keeps on tickin !" I hear Ford will drop the Flex after this year, as the styling is "Too Old School" Ed.

My sister bought one several months ago and loves it and it's a very comfortable car with seating for seven people and it's smooth and quiet. Ford quality in the last 7 years or so has been pretty good from everything I hear.

The County I work for has 2 of these. They are used to drive veterans to VA Clinic appointments. A plus is 7 passengers can be accommodated. The plan is to purchase 2 more in 2019.

The older fleet consists of 2012 Dodge Caravans which is being phased out.

My wife and I bought a new 2011 Ford Flex in April of that year. We got the least expensive FWD version, solid tuxedo black, absolutely no frills, no chrome but just the same it is a sharp car.

Shortly thereafter we took it on a 3 day trip and while exiting a restaurant another Flex dove in and parked beside us, When the driver exited his car I asked what his impression of the Flex was, without hesitation he commented he didn’t know why anyone would want anything else.

Ours has 39,700 miles now and we rarely drive it but when we do it is a pleasure. It usually gets 23.9 mpg @ 75mph on cruse. It is quiet, roomy will seat 7 and just as the man told me, I don’t know why anyone would want anything else. It seems as though you don’t see them very often and I don’t think Ford pushes them as far as sales is concerned.

When you put your pedal to the metal this thing will run like a scalded dog.

My wife had a 2009 SEL AWD with the V6. Great vehicle! It had plenty of pep, generous head and leg room (I’m 6’5”) and lots of storage space with the back seats folded down. I sat in the back seat several times and there was ample room for me there too. Other than the multi-disk CD player seizing up, I don’t recall any mechanical problems.

Nice vehicle and I’d probably own one if I didn’t need a Super Crew Pick-Up for hunting trips.

My wife has a red 2016 Flex and we really enjoy car. It has nice highway manners. Ours has the split middle seats which helps load the grandkids.
What I do not like is that it is not very nimble in tight situations due to its long wheelbase.

Wow, thanks for all the posts. I got more info on the Flex here than I got from a car forum I'm a member of.

We went to the local dealer to look the cheap Flex over that he had, and found it easy for both of us to get in and out of. The downside is that my wife decided it was too big for her to drive. We told the salesman that we weren't interested in it and started to leave when he asked us if we wanted to look at an 08 Lincoln MKX with 65000 miles on it. He walked us over to a sweet black CUV and we saw the price on it, looked it over and drove it, then bought it. She's a one owner vehicle with no accidents in near perfect shape. No door dings and only a few small scratches that will compound out. Easy to get in and out of, and wifey likes the power adjust passenger seat. I can't wait to try the air conditioned seats out. Why you may ask, and I'll tell you that my butt got burned so many times while I was working that it's still hot.

Thanks to all who replied.

I carpooled with a friend who had one and liked it, it was a good ride every morning for the years that I rode with him. Then one day his wife took it just "just to run an errand" and wrecked it. In protecting her but for minor injuries, it was wrecked. In the divorce prevention settlement, he was allowed to buy the big diesel truck that he always wanted. I suspect that he misses the fuel economy of the flex.
