Was stationed in Iceland for 13 months, and stationed in Germany for 2 years. In Iceland, there was no choice but to live on base, but in Germany I had an apartment in the town.

So...total:

Germany
Iceland
The obligatory Canada & Mexico
Luxembourg
Belgium
Lichtenstein
Austria
Switzerland
Netherlands (Holland is a region within the country of the Netherlands)
Italy (to include Sicily)
Australia
New Zealand
Thailand

I don't really count layovers & the like, but since several have mentioned them...I've also been to Japan (never left the airport, on the way to Thailand), and Greenland (never left the plane!) on the way to Iceland.

I would like to hit several more countries...beginning with England, Ireland, Scotland, & Wales.

Not many at all but one place only a few people can say they have ever been and not sure if it is considered a country even .. while in Greenland in the early 70's I got to fly a supply mission to scientist near the North Pole .. back then there was still a lot of ice at the North Pole unlike the summers of low to no ice now !!

Canada, Mexico, Greenland, and several parts of Alaska which is much different then any where else in the US..

All Business trips:

Canada (I was in Detroit and went to Windsor for dinner)
Germany
Italy
Venezuela (I installed a computerized security system in Caracas that I wrote in the 70's)

20+ foreign countries you all have already mentioned. West Germany / reunited Germany for seven years. South Korea for two. Nearly a third of my career. Delightful. And I traveled.

Norway. Especially notable. Loved the people, their culture and will.

Turkey. Wow! A country divided, but proud and congenial.

Spain. Different in every corner (sound familiar?). Endearing, hospitable and standoffish. Hard to interpret, but enjoyable.

France. The folks in the small towns didn't hate me because I was an American. Most enjoyable. Paris? They can keep it, like NY or LA.

Luxembourg. Now, there's a place to enjoy life and who you are as a person. Stimulating. Invigorating. Proud and welcoming.

Anytime you pass through a place, whether for lunch or days or years, the place makes its impression and you form an opinion. Does your opinion accurately define or describe the place? Probably not, but it's yours, and who can argue with it?

Attempt to learn about and enjoy everyplace you visit, and don't ever try to make it conform to your vision of paradise.

Cheers,

Bob
