I think there is a difference between just "talking the talk", which certainly includes some cliches, and trying too hard to sound "gun cool". And most of us have been around here long enough to tell the two apart.
Just to add a personal peeve, I find the people annoying who think they sound more savvy if they talk about "working a deal" when all they did was buy the gun. Some seem to never buy anything, they always work deals. They probably tell their wife "Hey, honey, I stopped by Safeway and worked a deal for a gallon of milk!"

Oh yeah, the thing about bear spray and jingle bells in the bear poop has been used to death.
I get awfully tired of the bear gun topics when some wit thinks he's being original in saying that all he needs is a .25 to shoot a companion in the knee so the bear will catch that man instead of the poster.

Actually, that last one is definitely not a forum cliche, but a tradition that goes back for centuries in English. The reasons are obscure, but to quote Admiral Chester Nimitz: "A ship is always referred to as 'she' because it costs so much to keep one in paint and powder."

I don't see many cast bullets that are under about 10-12 Brinell.

Just two for me. "One in the tube" just rubs me wrong.
And the one that bugs me the most, and is so worn out, tired and old is "Lost my guns in a tragic boating accident" When I'm reading a thread and I read that phrase I just move on to something else.

That one's been around for a while. In reality, the bear is more likely to chase the man who just shot his friend and is running away!
I didn't see one of my favorites here. "Having said that" usually contradicts what what was just stated.
And I don't really have a problem with "toy" for a gun. A toy is a want, not a need, and doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be used irresponsibly. One could refer to his new convertible, or his new boat, or even his new chainsaw as a toy, so what's the difference? Having said that, I'd never use the term in the presence of an anti-gun person.
