Came across a doner frame to make another Frankensmith but not familiar with the shim on the between the cylinder an frame. It also looks like the barrel pin wasn't popped out before the barrel was removed. Discription says it has import Mark's but not where from.
My two questions are is anyone familiar to why the shim? I'm pretty sure the frame might be torqued if the barrel was pulled without taking out the barrel pin. Are any of you folks familiar with this too.
Thanks in advance

Shims are often used to reduce excessive clearance between the cylinder and yoke and/or the yoke and the frame. These are not installed by S&W, but by the user. A pinned barrel removed with the pin still installed? Yikes! Sounds like someone did not know what they were doing. I would be concerned about the frame being bent and the barrel could be badly damaged too.

OP, I'm curious as to how you decided the barrel was removed without pulling the pin? OK, the pin hole looks like someone with few mechanical skills removed the pin. Looks like a lot of pin punch dings around the pin hole.

Looking at your one pic, you'd need to go over the frame with proper tools/gauges to have any clue as to condition. Just as a start, measure the cylinder front face to frame top and bottom on all chambers. Given the presence of shims and what I see in the pic, I'd walk away. Someone else may have tried to rehab the piece and gave up.

10-7s never had pinned barrels. I bought 7 of them from J&G sales. If that is a 10-7 frame some one drilled it for a pin. Are you sure it isn't a 10-2 frame? A K frame tap would straighten out the threads. .540-36 available from Brownell's for $53. But even with good threads there is a lot more to it than just screwing in a barrel. The spot you show in front of cylinder is where the gas ring is, not a shim. A bent frame could be straightened, but not without tools and patience.
