Found a 627-0 today. Who has one?

How do we find out how many -x versions were made?

I have a 627-5 that serves very well for many range games.

It's a PC version with a 'V-mag' barrel.

Not correct.

The model 27, which is still in production, continues to have a checkered top strap. The first six
are modern 8 shot model 27s while the last two are current 6 shot 27s

Ah! It slipped my mind they were making them again. Thanks for the correction.

Well let ol Billy ask a dumb question, a local gun shop has the two nickle 27s in an aluminum case. It is a consignment deal and the guy is asking 2 grand. I think thats a little high and I was tempted to offer 1600, to begin the negotiations, but I ended up buying a pre-27. My best friend of nearly 30 years and the guy who got me back into Smiths, has a Rock River A-2, and had actually seen these two Smiths first could likely trade his RR and mags and ammo pretty close to even? As an independant appraiser who is also going to put his money where his mouth is, What are they worth? Now they are a five inch with targets and a three and a half with diamond magnas. You spending your money, what are they worth? Billy

Yup.

However, I think that what he was getting at in his post was that this was the final time a stainless S&W was made with the checkered top strap? I can't recall what the SCSW says.

I think that was the ONLY time they made a SS gun with checkered topstrap

Are these new Model 27's with the lock? If they are, I believe they listed for around $1500 new. If they do not have the lock, then your offer may be in the ball park. I do not have a good feel for the value of the AR, as I am not a big fan and don't keep track of their values.
