Briefly this afternoon I was out driving making visits to church members. The route to one of my church members house went through a small town where there is a very good gun shop. I walked in and saw a plethora of handgun... but nothing that really caught my interest. I saw a 4” 66-2 in the case. It had the typical features one would expect... smooth trigger, service hammer, target grips, red ramp front sight, plain black rear sight. It was sooty from recently having been shot. The action was nice... locking up very tightly as though it had not be shot very much. SA and DA trigger pulls are what one would expect from a S&W. We jaw jacked a minute or two. I opined that he ought to at least clean the revolver before I bought it. He kindly reduced the price enough to cause me to consider that it was worth my investment of “sweat equity.” We agreed on $475 OTD including the obligatory tax, etc. I figure the price was not a barn burner... but in my area it’s hard to find any kind of a decent S&W revolver for anything less than $500. And stainless steel guns are always more money. I found a little Uncle Mike’s Sidekick Holster behind the counter which he agreed to include in the deal along with 7 rounds of Hornady .357 Mag. Critical Defense ammunition. I did not call my wife and ask what she thought. I later called and told her what I’d done, figuring it would be easier to get forgiveness than permission. :-)!!! I have taken some pictures but haven’t a clue as to how to post them to this site. My wife will not be home till Sunday so I can’t upload them to the site she uses. If I can get her on the phone, I’ll try to get directions so that I can post pictures. The pistol as purchased is sooty from recent shooting. I figure a nice evening spent cleaning and wiping it down will be an evening well spent. The result will be a very nice new revolver for which I’ve been looking for a long while.

I think you did very well. In my neck of the woods finding any used Smith in half way decent condiction is a trick in itself. Getting a M66 under five bills is a coup, IMHO.

Blessings,

I bought my 66-2 last year from a Ruger-only collector for $450. He had no respect for S&W, and I was very happy with my purchase!

I saw somewhere (might've been this forum) somebody say-

"I've never sold a guy that wasn't spotless, and never bought one that wasn't filthy"

I am always surprised that people don't clean guns before they sell them! Nice score though, that would've been a great price in my area as well.

Sorry about the pictures. My wife is off taking care of her mother following knee surgery. I hope to be able to speak with her tomorrow morning to get directions for doing the pictures, etc.

I have set up a account at Photobucket. I have taken the pictures off the SD card and put them on my computer. I have now been fiddling with trying to upload the pictures from my computer to the Photobucket site through two large mugs of coffee. This thing is "testing" my Christianity. So... I'm going to take my M-1 Garand and go jogging for about an hour. Then... I'll get some more coffee and try again.

Nice gun! Congrats!

Good for you! You just cannot go wrong with a good 66 at that price. It's a great all purpose K frame.

Beauty, congrats! :)

Doesn't get any better than that, and won't. Enjoy that fine 66! :) Regards 18DAI

Always heard that doing the Lord's work had it's rewards.

Nice score.

Mother's mag or Happich Simichrome polishes work well on SS firearms..and motorcycle chrome.

Regards,

This afternoon I dropped by the range on my way to the nursing home. I had just enough time to fire a box of .38's in the 66. Fired at 4, 7, 10, 12, 15, 20, 25 yds. At 20 yds. pulled three rounds into the 8 ring of the B-27 silhouette at 3 O'clock and put four rounds into the 9 ring again at 3 0'clock. The rest were in the 10 and X ring. This was with plain Jane Independence brand 130 gr. FMJ ammo. Very cool! I am thrilled with this revolver!
