I just spent a couple hours in my basement making up some 45 ACP. With the plated bullets I'm using running 13 cents each my total cost per round is 20 cents, works out to 10 bucks per box of 50.
Later this evening I plan on loading up 40 rounds of 308 using a recipe I tested out this morning. Cost for the Nosler 150 gn Accubond is 25 cents, powder is 18 cents, and the primer is 4 cents. As for the brass, picked up 150 once fired 308 casings for 35 bucks and expect to get a minimum of 10 reloads by neck sizing and running at a moderately reduced pressure. So, if I get 10 cycles from my brass my total cost for 308 will right about 50 cents a rounds, which aint bad at all. Another big plus is that my home brew was shooting 5/8 inch groups at 50 yards and some American Eagle 150 gn FMJ I shot for comparison purposes was shooting at nearly 2 inches.
Point is if you want to shoot, better start saving your brass and think about reloading down the road. It's not that difficult to do, all you have to do is follow the reloading guides, triple check every setup, and pay attention.
