I love the guys at my local shop. They called me to come see this. It is a 1979(?) M19-4 that was purchased new in early 1980 at the Schweinfurt Rod and Gun Club by a Staff Sargent of the 212th MP Co. All of the original paper work was in the box including an old catalog page where our SSG had circled the model he wanted and his ATF Form 6 to bring it back state side I suppose. It has been fired twice from what I was told and how it appears, as only two cylinders have any scorching and the others are pristine blue. Well, she is off with me to the range this morning to remedy the unfired cylinders...

The "M&P" was in quotes because it was purchased new by an MP. It was a play on words.... ah well.

Here are my M&P's....and friends....

No it is 54KXXX. The SCoSW puts it mid to late 1979. That makes sense since it was purchased new in Mar of 1980.

Here are some Belgian proof marks. They are on a 625 that was shipped to England (go figure).

These are on the bottom of the barrel. The Crown L is also on the back of the cylinder and the bottom of the frame, just under the yoke.

I'm not sure what the German proofs would look like, but they would be similar, sorta kinda.

I have not checked but I would bet that it did not as it was sold new on a US Military Base in GE. I would think it would be treated as any other US sale under those conditions and not be marked with any kind of export markings....but I will check.

I bought several handguns and a deer rifle from the Rod & Bottle in Germany in the mid-70's. None of them had proof marks. I guess its because we were on a military base and they were only for sale to Soldiers. Chop

Similar experience, later time period (late 70's & early 80's). No foreign proof marks on any of my R&G purchased guns.

OK, here is an admission, I have no idea how you guys now what caliber and model a gund is from just looking at it. I guess I am really still a true newby.
