I just found an old S&W .22 revolver. There is no model number on it. Serial number on the grip frame is K187855. The owner says it is unfired. He is asking $750. No box. Anyone know what it is and what it's worth? Where can I find a book on S&W serial numbers? I have the fever!

thanks

Mike- you need the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson by Supica and Nahas. Based on the book the gun is from 1953 which is prior to model numbering. It is either a K-22 Masterpiece with a 6" barrel or a K-22 Combat Masterpiece if it is 4". If it is truly in unfired condition$750 is a reasonable price IMHO.

$750 is a bargain around here. A K-22(pre-17), that looks like it went through a concrete mixer, is going for close to $1000, if you can find one.

I guess I will roll the dice and get it. Thanks to all. What is a good S&W book and where can I get it? I will post pics of it if I can figure out how to do it

I think he bought the book. At least that is what I think since he posted 'I bought it' 6 minutes after I posted a link to the book....and it was 9:30 at night CST.

Just bought it! Thanks.

We require evidence of a photographic nature or the event described shall thusly be deemed to never have occurred.

OOPS! :(

Ah well. That's how I keep getting roped into those resurrected threads too...

it looks very nice.....k-22 masterpiece or pre-18....has newer grips on it though...

Damn, am I jealous!!! An original K-22, in like new condition. He could have got $1500 for it around here. You better send a few greenbacks to your church, to keep that lucky streak going.

The grips from that time period should look like these ('47 K22 gun on the left, '51 or so 22 Combat Masterpiece on the right).

As 410bore said, in around '68 or so they did away with the diamond around the screw.

Nice gun!

Are the grips supposed to be numbered to the gun? Mine was made in 1953. Where can I find the correct style grips?

thanks,
Mike
