Had a small procedure last week and one of the after care suggestions was Neosporin on the wound site four times a day. This weekend I noticed that the skin around the site and any other skin that came in contact was red and irritated. I finally put two and two together and Googled Neosporin allergy. Bingo! Pictures showing other folk with blotches the exact same shade of pink.

Thinking back I now recall a couple of times with small cuts and the like when the skin went red after applying this stuff, usually at the insistence of my late wife. Will buy the alternative Bacitracin from now on.

Anybody else experience this or similar?

No but I found out I was allergic to Prilosec in a not so nice way!

Try aloe

Love to know what happened with you and Prilosec? I just finished taking it and I have this metallic and acidy taste in my mouth and I can't taste most foods. What happened with you?

Yep. Had that taste as well although it came and went and when I did have it it wasn't as bad. I could still taste food. What I got was heart palpitations/skipping heart beats/feeling heart beat in throat/Arrhythmia. Now since I stopped taking it a while ago, 4 - 5 months. I've noticed those feelings decrease. I still get them but very rarely

If you do feel the throat closing off or experience asthma symptoms after trying new medication, that is probably a very serious allergic reaction and warrants an immediate call to the doctor. You may need the paramedics and an emergency room.

I have severe reactions to jalapeno peppers, and once had to use an albuterol inhaler.

What set off my attack wasn't directly eating jalapeno. But the nitwit cooks in a Mexican restaurant, although I had told the manager to be sure that I had no jalapenos on my plate, had cooked my chicken breast in grease where they'd just cooked some food that did contain jalapenos. The meat absorbed the allergen and I almost had to call an ambulance.

Thankfully, this seems to be my only food allergy, and no medical ones. My former wife was allergic to penicillin and I knew a girl in college whose husband had died from a penicillin shot. He was a dentist, so you'd think he'd know his medical allergies, but I guess not.

I'd check any polymiacins to see if they contain the salve that irritates you. The other ingredients might cancel out the effects, but I wouldn't count on it.

I know we have a pharmacist or two here. Are store brand ointments about the same as more expensive brands, or do the name brands fight infection and heal better? I've heard that both ways, and those on a fixed income don't want to pay more than necessary for antibiotic salves.
