Hey all thank the lord I never been threw this. Ours is paid for and feel very blessed. Here is deal pice of property out here in our rural hood. Condemned property evicted residents year and half ago. This property has over $ 85k in fines. Condemned since 2009 fines attached daily and still on going. Now a neighbor is hearing from county that they are going to A B A T E and fourclose. And level property only fix for this . Here is kicker that I can't wrap my mind around. County can forclose level it and maybe turn around and had this property back to land owners and wave all the fees. Wow I am all for helping those in need. This is not the case with these owners. They are and still are very well known criminals felons that have and still do have a very bad past. Does this all sound right to you. Anyone ever hear of this? This is Florida. Wow there is so many others vet / disabled folks that should get a hand up 1st in my view. Not theifs and meth dealers

I don't know what Counties can and cannot do, but only banks can foreclose. What are the fines for? The county can make a property tax lien if they haven't paid taxes, or fine them for failing to maintain a house in livable condition, or letting the grass grow too long.

Are you saying the property owners are convicted felons? I'm not sure that means anything, they're still allowed to own property.

I think fines in the form of judgements can be filed against property. Or maybe the property was used as bond? Many different scenarios.

If property taxes were not paid, the county can sell property on tax sale.

No, I do not understand how the county could "give" the property back to the degenerate "owners"

From all info I have the property was Condemend in 2009 for code violations and pure filth and trash you would have to see it . Its in same condition today. Btw I know felons can own property just saying if county is willing to help folks which I am all for it should go to those like vets and those that served. Not to theifs and dealers. Owners eviticed year and half ago. County let them live there that long.

Here in Euclid Ohio,Cleveland suburb Cuyahoga County,the county has a land bank program. Properties that are razed/demolished/leveled and put into the program. A homeowner can buy a neighboring property (neighboring ONLY) to add to their property for a very low nominal cost. Some restrictions,no structures can be built and property must be maintained. It is strictly a property increase onto their existing property. All past fines and property taxes go away.

I sympathize with the idea of helping vets instead of helping the scum, but I wouldn't want to live in a place where the government can take land from someone and give it to another person because that other person has more "social credit." That's today's China.

Since you mentioned ABATE, it may have been an abatement process where the county seized the property through the courts for ongoing criminal conduct on the property. If so, it should be a matter of record in your county courts. We had an abatement process in my city. I never knew of us to actually seize a property, usually the legal notice was sufficient to correct the problems that were disrupting the neighborhood.
