FPC missing mags (not mine)

When I picked up my FPC today the transfer dealer told me someone picked up an FPC a few days ago and there was only one magazine in the package instead of the three that are supposed to be there, so he wanted me to check mine. (All three were included.)

The one with the missing mags came from a high volume internet vendor (so did mine, different vendor). The dealer said the customer decided to keep it and ask the vendor for the missing mags rather than send it back, he wanted the gun (they're still not common here in OKC). I get that: I recently bought a 10/22M from an online dealer who advertised it as "new old stock", and it wasn't -- no rings in the box, which was the wrong box anyway -- but I wanted it and decided to keep it; I've got Ruger rings that fit.

Anyway the point of this post is to ask if anyone has been sold an FPC with one or more mags missing.

Haven't bought one but robbing extra mags out of the box on new guns is, unfortunately, an all too common occurrence. Usually from smaller dealers but in the past I've seen it from some of the larger suppliers.

When mags are hard to find, especially when it's a new model with proprietary magazines, some shady dealers boost their profits by doing it to have a supply of extra mags to sell.

I'm sure if it was a larger supplier/jobber that deals directly with and gets their inventory from Smith & Wesson, S&W would not be on board with the practice and I would think it would have repercussions for the dealer.

Unfortunately on sites like Gunbroker the weasels get around it by stating in their ad that it's a new, unfired gun in the box but just casually mention it will come with only one magazine.

If I bought a new S&W FPC and it was short on mags when it was delivered I would definitely be soured on the deal, as the extra mags and their storage in the butt stock are a prominent feature used in the marketing/sales pitch to promote that item.
The more I'm around people the more I like my dog . . .

Mine was good to go.

If you are in an area with mag restrictions you need to make sure that you know what the dealer is going to do about the magazines if they can't legally ship them to you.

Mine came with all 3. I was at sportsman warehouse yesterday and speaking to the counter guy about the FPC and he turned around and handed me one of the fpc 23rounders and said a few had come in. Cool till I turned it over and saw $49.99 price tag. I’m good with what’s on the gun so I said no thanks.

I agree with you but why wouldn’t the capability to carry 63 total rounds on gun not be sufficient 99.9% of the time? Loaded 23 round mags are fairly heavy to tote around. Just IMO.
