I have a Kel Tec Sub and find it kind of small and not all that fun to shoot. I’m 6’ 3”. I mounted a red dot at a 45 degree angle and it works but is kind of quirky to roll the gun. My 13 year old son doesn’t like shooting it at all because it slaps his face when it recoils.

Anyone have a Sub and the FPC? What are your thoughts as to how they compare? Just a fun gun here. Would mount a red dot in the traditional manner.

I’ve shot Sub-2000’s but own the FPC.
Here’s my assessment:
The Sub-2000 folds smaller (flatter) and is a bit lighter 4+ pounds vs 5 lbs unloaded. However it’s not all that pleasant to shoot (slappy recoil, spongy trigger, charging handle zipping back and forth next to your cheek, and no last round hold open). It also can’t have an optic mounted when you fold it.
FPC is slightly bigger and a bit heavier, but fixes many of the shortcomings. Very comfortable recoil due to two stage recoil buffer system. Trigger pull is equivalent to an M&P 2.0 pistol, has last round hold open, and keeps an optic mounted when folded.

If you want an absolute minimalist gun for size and weight but aren’t that interested in shootability, then go with Sub-2000.

If you want a gun that’s still pretty compact and handy but is way more enjoyable to shoot, that’s the FPC. Mine is very popular when I let friends try it on the range. Heck I’ve even had some friends buy their own after shooting mine.

I can only give you my thoughts on the FPC since I have not shot a Sub2k.

The FPC is easy to handle, has less felt recoil than some heavier PCCs I've shot and has been very dependable. When shouldered it feels lighter than it is because the majority of the weight is between you strong hand and your shoulder.

I was an early adopter of the FPC and have no regrets.

Has anyone seen the latest version of the Sub2000?
When you unlatch it to fold it up, the handguard/barrel section rotates 45 degrees - then you fold it.
This allows you to mount the optic on top of the handguard and still be able to fold it for easy storage.

Have the SUB2k Gen2… no FPC.

Big thing for me, Glock magazines. I’m issued a 19 for work. Have a metric butt ton of Glock magazines. My SUB2k takes Glock 19 magazines. Runs great suppressed. That being said, I do have all the MCARBO stuff in it.

I actually had a .40 SUB2k with M&P magazines years ago… prior to us switching to 9mm. Switched, and sold it to a coworker. I just got to the point where I wanted to blow thru some of the .40 ammo I have… built an AR pistol in .40. Went with Glock mags for that.

Some SUB2k porn…

Hey, if CBP issued a M&P… would I think differently? Likely. But I went with what I have available… and magazines are a big thing.

Only fired the Sub2000, and it was fun to me. Never needed to buy more mags, thank you Glock. Didn't need more 9MM rounds, either. Put a strap on it for my shoulder, and shoot from near the waist.

Thanks for the input guys. Good to hear the FPC is more shootable. I’ll keep considering one.

Try the Ruger take down carbine. It is a lot nicer and more shootable than either the Smith or Keltec

I have both the FPC and the Ruger PC Carbine. I like both. If I could keep only one it would be the FPC. It's lighter and you can field strip it without tools.

I too have only shot the FPC. I have done a little customization on it. I changed the handguard and buffer plug. I put an Atlas 9 by Odin on it. No real recoil. It is a very easy PCC to shoot. Only thing I want to see now is a 45ACP. My wife has not done a whole lot of shooting until recently. She likes it too.

For the Glock fan boys you have the Response. I haven't shot it but it looks like it fills another niche, PCC/AR. I personally like the FPC. I might be interested if they build it in 45.

[emoji1787] Funny how my agency selecting the Glock makes me a fan boy… when I want to utilize magazines/ammo that I receive for training/off duty use. If that makes me a fan boy… I guess I am. [emoji41] But for the record, I don’t really carry it off duty. Been carrying a P7M8 pretty religiously since October and will continue to do so.

Don’t know if S&W submitted a set of guns for the solicitation, but when it was coming down to the final selection, I do know it was between Glock and P320. Very happy with the selection, as my only dip in the P320 pool was my Formed 1 FCU for the Flux Raider.

That being said, I’m not that interested in the Response. At least the SUB2k folds up small and is 1.75 pounds lighter (4.25 pounds, unloaded). I already did my own 9mm AR that takes Glock magazines. SBRed (Stern adapter on standard lower, since I like options with NFA items), with an integral suppressor. Works great with our duty load; Speer G2 147 grain.

The SUB2k works well enough to be tossed in when I don’t want or can’t travel with one of my SBRs and want magazine compatibility with my duty gun. I also zeroed it with our duty ammo.

99.9% of the time when I’m in state, I have a suppressed 5.56mm SBR in my truck locker. If I had to respond to something while off duty (pretty rural, northern ME), the rifle round makes me more comfortable… if said bad guy decided to toss on armor.

To be clear, do I think the FPC is garbage? Not at all. But for me, M&P magazines are just another magazine to stock… and if I’m not stuck with it thru work or have a decent role for it to fill, it really isn’t something I’d look to invest in. Guys/girls with M&Ps… I’m sure it appeals much more to them.
