I emailed S&W to ask about dry firing my M&P 9 without a snap cap and the reply stated that this is inadvisable as it might cause fractures of the striker. In contrast the S&W website says that all S&W center fired pistols can be safely dry fired. I'm going to start using snap caps with my M&P 9.

Good idea. I've heard this from several competitive shooters. It's not good to dry fire the M&P's alot.

I have had my M&P40c for over a year now. I practice dry fire with it all the time. I may have snapped it more than 10,000 times by now with out any sanp caps. I have not had any problem with it and nothing has broken. Maybe I am lucky, but if it brakes, I, or they can fix it. Dry firing is good practice and makes the trigger work better.
