Ok, he has a lame excuse. Even Doublesharp, who should be in a hospital appeared as usual, working the crowd. But not GF.
Long ago, my beloved table pard John received a phone call from his oldest daughter about Thanksgiving time. She announced she was getting married, so John said "that's good, when?" And she said late August, to which he thought was nice. Then around Christmas, she announced they were moving the date up to late July, and John said "thats good". So by late January she suddenly discovered some conflicts and decided to again move the date to late June, to which John said "thats good." Things went on but in March, she and her hubby to be again decided to move the date. They called home to tell John they'd decided early June was better. John asked the date, and he said "that's OK, but I won't be there, its a date we have a gun show!" A man's got to have his priorities.
So about 6 years ago my oldest decided to get himself married up. I approved of the girl, but when they told me the date, I just said fine, but I won't be there. Why, they asked. Simple, its a gun show date, and any simpleton could get the schedule and see what are acceptable dates and which aren't. He selected wrong. Don't shed any tears, he also decided to accept the long offered "elopement bonus". A nice round figure with zeros at the end, sized to offset the pain me having to attend would cause.
We've discussed GF's youth, while he's attacking our old age. But when the chips are down, the youth just don't show the dedication us old guys still have. This is serious stuff, as in a gun show. Weddings, vacations, and even funerals (other than our own) don't interfere.
OK, a gun show report: Doublesharp was there, heavily medicated. Dave Keith showed up for a few minutes to chat, and we finally let him wander away, in a daze, about an hour later. On the plus side, he did like my show and tell gun. I didn't sell a thing today. Brenda sold some Ivory Colt grips, so she's happy. My pard Joe sold a $7 grip.
Boyd had a prewar 3rd model box for sale, but its for a blue 4". And he wanted way too much for it. It was a small show for June, maybe half the size of a normal June show. We also conflicted with some religious convention, a lot of people who have no idea how to drive, or take their turn when it comes. They played the game "no, you go first". Wish I could tell you I have a couple of new guns, but I don't.
