Thanks for the assist sir, and yes you can take grips off but I would not go any further not only is it a pain to get back together, you have to time the "Decock" proper ,to much and the gun goes boom on a decock, to much, the hammer doesn't fall for enough foward( learned this first hand)

Does any special care have to be taken when removing the grips as well? The decocker springs look a little delicate compared to SIG ones.

You won't want to do anything to damage the sideplate. It is unique to the frame decocker models, having an extra pivot stud on it for the decock lever. Might be useful to have an extra in the parts kit.

That complicated huh? I just did mine on a whim T&E really I had a complete 1026 for reference...

Some instructions share woulda helped...

1076 is my favorite to shoot out of the 3rd gens that I have. Considering the crazy prices that these are fetching nowadays if I wasn’t already well stocked I would consider adding that to my collection.

Just a guess, but it looks like they want $1K for the gun and $100.00 per mag (x10) ...? How many of the mags have white followers?

My 1076 also has those two 'dots' (. .) beneath the tab of the decock lever. It means the gun underwent the factory recall in order to fix the trigger.

Assuming you only wanted the gun and one mag, $1100.00 (?). For the gun and two extra mags (+$200.00) ... maybe $1300.00 OTD.

I'd say $1300.00 for a decent condition 1076 and 3 mags is a good deal.

A minty 1066, with 2 mags and a Galco holster, just sold on GunJoker for $2900.00.

Being a southpaw, the frame mounted decocker is a no go.

The slide mounted ambidextrous ones are my friend.

They should all be interchangeable. White followers were meant to solve a supposed issue the yellow follower mags had with cartridges nosediving in the magwell, and for what it's worth the single malfunction I've had in my 1006 was exactly that in a yellow follower mag (that the previous owner had also shaved the feed lips back on for some reason). The gun has never malfunctioned with the white followers.

Yes, exactly. The white followers were Smith's last upgrade to their 10XX-series magazines.

The non-'Accu-Glide' mags might very well be early 10mm mags that originally had yellow followers. There are also stampings on the front wall of the mag body, like 'ES-1.'

I forget which particular stamping signifies that it's an earlier mag body versus a later one. Perhaps one of our resident 10XX-series experts knows.

Historically, I believe the frame de-cocker concept got its start with the WWII Sauer 38H, a "hammerless" contemporary of the Walther PP series and the Mauser HSc. Interestingly, that served as both a de-cocker and cocker!



That was followed up in more modern times, notably by the Sig-Sauer P220; that version was a decocker only.



It appears to me that S&W just borrowed the concept some time after the German patents had expired (hopefully), I would guess. Nothing new under the sun...
